Hi all,

I got the email below from the NASB people.  One part of their agreement (below) requires us to make the NASB the default translation unless the user chooses another version as their default.  Are we ok with this?  I'm going to ask them what we do if another version requires teh same thing, but I'm assuming we'll agree to that requirement to get the version if they will not budge.

Let me know if not.

Rick

I think NASB is good to go with as a default.  It is in line with the kind of commentary we want and is thought of as a solid translation, RSV and NIV being the other good ones.

For the long run, I don't see that it is out of the question to have a wiki-translation either, even if NASB is the default.   I think that the wiki is a good forum for this since students et al can work on it.  A couple of passages that I have posted on include my own translation.

As an aside, Jen had our 4th on Sunday... Ethan Elijah.  We have also recieved an Air Force assignment to Syracuse.  This was a big change from what we were expecting but allows me to complete my PhD coursework for philosophy and begin the disertation.

Very Best,

Joel

Congratulations on Ethan.

I noticed the wiki-translation.  What do you think about having it in the list with the other translations as the Wikitary translation?  The text would go between the <scripture></scripture> tags.  Then the user could select it as their default or could view it in parallel beside other translations.  I envision having the various translations as tabs and Wikitary would be a tab similar to the following.

| ESV | KJV | NASB | NIV | RSV | Wikitary |

When editing the page the Wikitary translation would be there to edit and the others would not.

Also, David had mentioned connections to Wycliffe.  If they use Wikitary for various translation projects then we would create a wiki for that language and they would put their translation in the <scripture> tag.  It would allow them to provide commentary with the translation as well.
