Hi,

I recently purchased the wikipedia encyclopedia which says I needed to
connect to wifi to start downloading the 2gb worth of data onto my
iphone.

Observed that there are no progress to the downloading and it has been
about 3 hrs, progress is still minimal. What is your advice?

Thanks.
Jason

Hi Yai

I noticed that when downloading the dump mine sometimes stopped as
well.

My workaround was that when I saw it had stopped (when the KB/sec
stopped changing) I just exited the application by hitting the home
button and opened it up again and then clicked "Resume Download" then
it kicked off again from where I had left off.

Hope it works for you : )

Cheers

Hi,

Did that several times over the past 5 hours. Still the same. The KB/
sec changes for a while but stopped.

Wonder if there is an easier way to DL it.

Thanks.

Hi again

Sorry that didn't work for you.

I've already posted a question about alternative methods for
downloading/storing the dump a few weeks ago but haven't got a
response yet (http://groups.google.com/group/wikipedia-iphone/
browse_thread/thread/da7bfb4ae40d7b6)

I don't mind downloading the 2GB so much, it's the fact that iTunes
doesn't seem to back it up that gets me. My iPhone threw a bit of a
wobbler a few weeks ago and needed to be restored and although the
wiki app restored successfully I still had to download the dump again.

Also, I assume once I upgrade to iPhone OS 3.0 in the next few weeks
I'll have to download it again *sigh*

For what it's worth, the URLs for the files that the app uses are:

http://changefeed.com/zrocessed
http://changefeed.com/locate.db
http://changefeed.com/locate.prefixdb
http://changefeed.com/blocks.db

If you download all four of those and (somehow -- will probably
require a jailbreak) put them in the Documents directory of the
Wikipedia.app bundle on your iPhone, you won't need to download
anything on the device.

Hope this helps.

Hey Patrick

Thanks for that, sorry I keep fussing! hahaa

Problem is my phones still under warranty and I really don't want to
Jailbreak it if it can be avoided. I see there are a few apps out
there that allow you FTP access to transfer files between iPhone and
PC on the app store. Is it possible to include some function like
that? Like I mentioned in my other post I'm more than willing to pay
extra!!!

Cheers

Jason
