I hadn't noticed that one because I pretty much always create new pages by editing an existing page with wiki link like "2012-07-19 - Working on [[SomeAwesomeThing|something awesome]]", saving the page, and then clicking the link to create the new page which pre-populates the filename and doesn't trigger the bug you've observed. That way all my pages are always linked together with some kind of context.
It's a pesky bug that I tracked down and fixed recently in the sidebar related to AJAX requests and some special security measures against hacking attempts. I just have to modify the AJAX request that updates the WikiWord as you type the filename.
Will try to roll out an update over the weekend. In the meantime, you could use the wiki link form an existing page trick to create new pages. Sorry for the trouble.
