Since Friday, September 29, 2017, WikiPack has displayed the following message anytime I try to save an edited page:

There was an error while attempting to sync this page with Dropbox. Try editing the page to make sure there aren't any Markdown syntax errors, or empty WikiWord links (like [[]]), or try to sync again if you've edited the page remotely.

The pages in question don't contain Markdown syntax errors and I have tried to sync them to Dropbox a couple of times a day each day since, always with the same result.

Did WikiPack's Dropbox API key expire or something?

Ah, then it has finally happened: https://blogs.dropbox.com/developers/2016/06/api-v1-deprecated/

I'm sorry to say that Dropbox sync will most likely no longer function correctly.

I do have a branch with a re-write that is functioning with the new API, but it's not in a state to deploy to production and I don't see myself making to time to complete it any time soon.

Unless there's a real need from people? Are they many people depending on it at the moment?

I do for one. It's too bad I'm a Groovy/Java/JavaScript guy and not a Ruby guy, or I'd offer to give you a hand. Are you thinking that, since you already have the new API code in the rewrite, you could just transplant it to the current codebase?

As you've pointed out, we always have the .markdown files. I've got something set up using MDwiki on Amazon S3 that I can transfer my pages to, but WikiPack is nicer since it has an integrated editor.

Whatever you decide, thanks for developing WikiPack and hosting it for so many years. It's been really useful to me.

Thanks David, I appreciate it. Glad it's been useful to you!

These days I've found myself using a workflow of creating/editing pages in Folding Text directly on my Mac, and they still sync to Trunk Notes through Dropbox natively, but would really like to revive WikiPack.

Just to follow up for others who may have the same need...

Amazon S3 was too cumbersome, so I worked out a replacement using MDwiki with GitHub Pages. It's still not as nice as WikiPack, since it doesn't provide for real wiki-style editing. It works for me because I'm a developer and I'm familiar with git.
