Hello all WikiJournal participants,

As per the email below (previously sent to the boards), we need to give an activity report for January 1 to May 31 this year. I have made a draft at https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:Project/Rapid/WikiJournal_2020/Report

I'd appreciate it if you also had a look to see if there is something else relevant to add to it, before we submit it.

Best regards,

Mikael

Hello WikiJournal boards,

We need to add an activity report for what WikiJournal has been up to between January 1 and May 31 this year (as per this entry):

Our activities from June 2019 to Dec 31 are covered in the annual report for 2019 (here), and I think the most convenient way to report January 1 and May 31 is to add it as a separate section in the report for 2020 (so that we don't have to write it all again twice when reporting the rest of the year), so I've made a separate header there. So please join in filling it out with what we've achieved this year.

Best regards,

Mikael

Thank you everyone for additional feedback! I have now submitted the report as per forwarded emails below.

To comment on some of the questions that came up in the process:
 • I have not heard back yet from the US non-profit application.
 • Only the section Activity_report_Jan_1_-_May_31 is submitted now, and we will fill in the other sections after New Year. Still, it is nice to have important items added already now, while they are more fresh in mind. Also, I think we should keep separating events occurring before and after May 31/June 1, so that we can use the latter for next year's activity report.
Best regards,

Mikael

Hello Manavpreet,

I have now submitted the report at the Wikimedia Affiliates Data Portal, and sent an email to wikimediaannounce-I. I am sorry for the delay. We have kept a habit of reporting yearly for Jan-Dec but we have now added this June-Dec reporting as a recurring event.

Best regards,

Mikael

Greetings,

This is a notification to bring to your attention that your organization is currently past due on its required annual reporting. and has expired. Wikimedia User Groups are required to submit an annual activity report covering the entirety of the 12-month agreement period in order to prompt review for a renewal.  Reports must be written in English, posted to meta via the  Wikimedia Affiliates Data Portal.

This page is used to track how organizations and groups are meeting reporting requirements described in their agreements with the Wikimedia Foundation (e.g. chapter agreements, thematic organization agreements, user group agreements).  It is the central place where affiliates can add reports about their activities, share their plans, and even news or social media channels with the wider movement. When new reports are available, organizations and groups should add them to this page to keep their columns up to date.

As noted on the meta Reports page,  your organization’s 2019 annual reporting became past due in June.  Please be sure to :

# Post your 2019 annual reporting to the meta via the  Wikimedia Affiliates Data Portal as soon as possible to return to compliance with your user group agreement.

# Check that your group’s page is also up to date with past report links for historical record-keeping, and

# Please send an email to Wikimedia-l in order to share with a movement-wide audience.

If we do not hear from you or receive this reporting on the reports page within the next 30 days, your group’s name and logo will be removed from the affiliates page and your information and page link will be migrated to the Formerly Active Affiliates page.

If you have any questions or need any further guidance, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Upon taking a look at the report, and the one before it, I notice that we spend less money than allotted. I am unsure of the politics of Wikipaedia as a relative newby, however in many organizations that would be bad for us. On top of that it isn't correct unless we got some kind of unstated grant for server space, or borrowed it from someone else.
Are we aiming to spend as little as possible as a political statement about open science? If that is the case, great, but we should probably somewhere state something about the cost of server space we are using so other organizations can get a realistic picture from us.
Personally, I would love to see us move in the direction of embracing executable reproducible papers (papers with reproducible code and data) as much as possible, and that will eat up even more server space. Obviously, there is some variation as to how much server and storage space costs, but if you need an estimate of real world cost, and know how many terabytes we take up, I could write some calculations if we want them.
