Hi, I noticed in another thread that Rachel Wexelbaum proposed that we have a real-time online meeting to discuss the journal. I'm willing to figure out how to set up the video conference. I made a doodle poll for times that I can host, but if these times are difficult for most people, let me know. https://doodle.com/poll/edcnpdh8qu9ic6qv

Hi Rachel,

Thanks for doing this! Should we propose some broader hours on the poll for the folks who aren't in the US?

I added some earlier and later times on my end, which are really my limits when it comes to my work hours! If someone wants to propose a different time and volunteer to host, I'm fine with that too.

Hi, thank you to the five of you who voted in the Doodle poll. It looks like the most popular day was Wednesday, August 22 2pm-2:30pm MST (4pm EST or 1pm PST).

I've scheduled a Zoom meeting for that time (here's the link). I'll send out the link again just before the meeting, which will also act as a reminder. Since I'm using a free Zoom account, our meeting is limited to 30 minutes. It's possible to join Zoom through computer audio/video as well as phone audio.

My current plan is to prepare an overview of the workflow of a submission from start to end and explain our roles in the process. It looks like Thomas Shafee may also attend and if so, he can help us all figure out how things work. Please reply in this thread with other "agenda items" or bring your questions to the meeting. I look forward to speaking with you simultaneously then!

We're going to be meeting in 10 minutes to discuss WikiJournal of Humanities workflow. Here's the link to the zoom meeting.

I am trying to get into Zoom - via the link or on the website, and no luck.

Anybody else having issues accessing it?

Sorry about that Jeffrey! I'm not sure why the Zoom meeting wasn't working for you--I'm happy to use a different program if that's easier for everyone. I'll post some notes from the meeting shortly.

Thanks; I was able to join about 10 minutes in; needed a restart on my end.

Glad to at least hear some of our voices!!

Here are some notes from the meeting we had:

From Thomas:
-The editors-in-chiefs of the three WikiJournals receive notifications when a new article is submitted and also when peer reviewers submit information through the peer review form.
-The entire board does not have to approve of an article after peer review for it to be approved for publication. For other journals, some 40-60% of board members vote.

As a group:
We discussed what kinds of articles to solicit. There are two ways we can go about it--we can find FA (Featured Article) level articles on Wikipedia and ask the authors to submit, or ask specialists to create/improve articles where there are gaps in Wikipedia's knowledge. Thomas shared his spreadsheet with us of the people he has already asked about submitting to the WikiJournal of Humanities: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1-2jGMgF-16AgMAWnDxPG01PWDwX01BTjo_xfsHr-aAw/edit#gid=495198968

We decided to each add three articles to the list in the next month--articles that Wikipedia sorely needs or that are already really good on Wikipedia.

Remaining questions are: The ISSN application is in progress and will take 3-6 weeks. Should we wait to publish articles until we have an ISSN? Should we publish them in bundles or as soon as they are ready?

Thanks for the notes! I think those are good next steps to pursue.

I think articles can be published even before the ISSN is ready.

Best regards,

Mikael
