Dear guys,

we – WikihouseGER – want to cut a 1:10 model of the WikiHouse model Studio v0.2 with a lasercutter.
After opening the .dxf-file in Illustrator to get a optimized .svg-file, i get the cutting forms with different colours. (Please see attached screenshot)
  1. What meaning have the different colours?
  2. Why are some borders are crossing other borders, i.g. blue and red? (see Screenshot: left cutting-form below) What is the meaning of this?
I can only continue optimizing the .ai-file, when i know what i am doing.
In short: I need your help. :-)

Can anyone tell me something about the coloured borders?
Did you do a similar project?

Have a nice day,
Musa

Hi Musa,

Sorry you have been facing this problem.

I would suggest these steps:
1. Go back to your sketchup model.
2. Check all components for no overlaps and correct tolerances.
3. Save your file.
4. Save again as a new file.
5. Draw a big rectangular plane in the free model space.
6. Use this big rectangular plane as paper.
7. Arrange all the desired components on the paper (big rectangular plane).
8. Optional: You can do the blanking process within SketchUp here.
9. Once the entire model is scattered on the paper (big rectangular plane), use section plane tool.
10. Make sure the section plane is parallel to the paper.
11. Make sure the section plane intersects all the scattered components through the midpoint.
12. Export the section to dwg.

Hi,

thank you for your reply.

That means that i have to deconstruct all parts of the model and rearrange them on the pager (big rectangular plane), right?

So i shouldn’t use the .dxf-files, i mentioned?

Another problem

I have no options in the export menu to get a dwg-file (see screenshot).

But i saw a tutorial where he exported in dwg. Is it a plugin?

Thanks for your help! :)

Musa

Musa.

Try "Export > Section Slice"
You will get a cleaner dwg/dxf this way.
There are a few things to be taken care of after you get a basic dwg/dxf from the model.
These things pertain to CNC machining and that part of the process.
Someone else can explain how to make the basic dxf file, "CNC ready"

Kushal.
