This one stumps me.
I thought tables of content were generated automatically in WikiEd.
I have a sub page of my user page where the TOC does not appear.
See: http://www.wikieducator.org/User:Philbartle/Tutorials
I have compared it to all my other sub pages, and do not recognise
anything which would cause that.
Please can a techie look at it ans let me know why, and/or how to fix it>
Cheers,
Phil

Hi Phil,

Take a look now:

http://www.wikieducator.org/User:Philbartle/Tutorials

As that what you're looking for?

You can force the table of contents to appear by inserting the "magic word':

"__TOC__"

I suspect that the table you are using, overides the stylesheet for automatically generating the TOC.

Cheers
Wayne

Another similar question - What triggers the automatic appearance?

I'm guessing, but it seems to depend on there being 3 or more
headings. It may depend on there being headings of at least two
levels.

Or put another way, the Table of Contents magically appears when there
are several heading on the page and wiki application thinks it is
complex enough to need a TOC.

I think you are correct or close. From memory it is 3 or 4 headings.

Hi Valerie,

Yip -- you're right, the table of contents is generated automatically when there are four or more headings on a page.

There are a few "magic word" commands you can use to suppress the TOC or place its position.

See:

Valerie,

You are correct, the first time TOC is triggered by having three or more headings. (I know Wayne said four, but both the documentation and my experience has been three).  For a lot of information on TOC see the Wikipedia help page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Section#Table_of_contents_(TOC) and following sections

Valerie

I love when questions prompt information sharing... so thank you, Phil for asking and thank you, Wayne for sharing.

Thanks all

Magic Words - don't you just love it! These folks have a delightful
sense of humor.

I have made a note to this link - I have seen this page before, but I
can never find it when it might be useful, like when I think I can
write templates on my own. :o)
