WE are missing a wonderful opportunity to promote WikiEducator and the
great content that now resides in WikiEducator.

MERLOT is a great resource for educators looking for educational
resources. Many are peer reviewed and rated.
http://www.merlot.org

I searched for WikiEducator and only got 3 hits!

If everyone who reads this list submits one WikiEducator resource to
MERLOT, that would significantly increase the WikiEducator visibility
in the MERLOT collection and the global pool of OERs known to
educators worldwide. Let's do it...

A little self-promotion goes a long way.

I just added the Technology Supported Learning workshop to MERLOT
http://www.wikieducator.org/Technology_Supported_Learning

There is a place for an image or logo. Great opportunity to get some
recognition for the WE logo. Unfortunately, I could not find the WE
logo - the one in the top left of all the pages to add.

Any suggestions for what WE should put in the contribution listings?

Val,

Re the logo. I'm not sure if you link to the logo or have o up load it
to your member's profile.
http://www.merlot.org/merlot/viewMember.htm?id=419049

If it just needs a link then just go up to the wikiedu logo, right
click. copy link location and then insert it in the member's box.

If you need to upload then you might just do a snip and save of the
logo to your computer, and then browse upload. If you haven't snipped
and saved, and have vista, then with a search you'll find it on your
computer.
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Use-Snipping-Tool-to-capture-screen-shots
If not vista then Screenshot is one free capture tool which works OK.

Not sure about the contributions, whether you'd want to go
disciplinary, which is a lot of work; or partner which would seem more
logical. Seems like the link on the partner communities page sends one
off to sites that I haven't seen move for years. http://www.merlot.org/merlot/communities.htm
So maybe WE board would like to sign one of their agreements, which
align pretty well, and then just have them link to WE Home page.

My only experience of Merlot is that, while a great idea, it seems to
be just something which a bureaucracy run, and offers a way to raise
money for CSU. I've never seen these guys do anything but talk.

After hopping on a plane and meeting in some very nice hotels of
course :)

Hi Valerie,
I have been a member of Merlot for quite some time: http://www.merlot.org/merlot/viewMember.htm?id=28428
How do you suggest we go about adding WE?
Warm wishes,

Valarie,
This is a good idea to have individual selections sent to Merlot for review, not just take a batch and send them. I am a new p[eer reviewer for Merlot and have found a thorough process for reviewing each item.
Send excellently written material to Merlot for the review process one at a time. I am sure there are excellent materials for review that will pass the review process.Meanwhile, join Merlot and look over materials that you might need for your own teaching.Best Wishes,
Gene

Thanks Gene

I'm not sure it is possible or practical for WikiEducator to send
batches of OERs to MERLOT for review - too many individual
contributors with 1000s of pages that are just someone's work in
progress. Only the originator knows if these OERs are ready for peer
review and wider distribution.

However, gaining a presence in MERLOT by encouraging individual
WikiEducators to submit their work to the MERLOT review process will
help promote WikiEducator generally as well as contribute to the open
content population.
