free science/tech posters that can be translated and reprinted in Cambodia

I have scoured the net and sent off countless emails to organizations that display some nice posters... yet am getting nowhere... thought you may be able to help...
I am in great need of some open content posters that can be translated to Cambodian and reprinted for display in schools... the main topics can be about anything science/tech related... What I wish to do is demonstrate that classrooms adorned with freely available yet highly entertaining posters help to raise awareness on science topics.
Any thoughts?

I have a suggestion - have you ever thought of contacting the BBC?
In one of my programs that I am managing, they have provided a booklet that was designed for them, but available for people in our particular program.
They have fairly extensive science coverage - maybe a chat with their science editor and / or the folks responsible for science publications...

Thank you very much for the constructive ideas... I suppose the real issue is time and capacity...
I have many other tasks to take care of so I cannot spend all my time on this poster idea... yet if I do not do it then it will not get done as I am an Army of one... :(
Capacity is another good one as I do not have the capacity to make my own posters nor do I have the capacity to organize others in a competition considering my time constraints... We have having a workshop on Science and Tech ed early December... I want to get some posters ready by late November... takes time to gather the resources, get the budget approved and printed in time... everything takes more time when you are in a developing nation... :)

Thanks for your note ~ I was struck by your comment an "Army of One..." From that perspective, it would certainly appear that there's more to do... than one person can handle...
In my view, WikiEducator is as much about content development (and related materials), as it is a distributed Network of community support - talent, resources and opportunity. A challenge (and opportunity) for WikiEducators is to see ourselves as an integral part of this Network - so we can do more for each other, in less time with less resources - than it would ordinarily take.
It is likely more helpful to you - and us - if you could identify (from a project perspective) what has to happen this round (i.e., project tasks, dates, etc.). I think the contest/bounty idea is a sound one - of the many you've received - but maybe it could be used for a project that's farther ahead in the future....which WikiEducators (as Ambassadors) could rally around...
When I connect with my fellow WikiEducators, I recognize that we all have many forces pulling us in many directions - but we do have a unifying force....and that is the overriding objective of free educational content, AND each other.
Your thoughts, feedback? From others in our group?

I apologise for my tardy and belated response. It's a no-travel
fortnight here at COL and I've been in meetings, meetings and more
meetings. Just a little aside sharing solidarity with our collective
challenges of so much to do --- and so little time <smile>.
Your idea of free content posters for classrooms that can be
translated, modified and adapted is simply brilliant! (I'm a little
jealous that I did not think of a project like this myself!)
We may not be able to meet your targets for November - but we will
certainly be able to conceive and start an international project to
promote the development of free content posters for learning.
What about an international competition where our youth are tasked
with developing posters for education. A great project where Art and
graphic design teachers can collaborate with the the IT teachers.
Let's design a "Posters4Learning" project -- an international
competition where pupils are tasked with designing a poster to support
teaching in the classroom - in a subject area of their choice.
We will need to stipulate two requirements:
1) That all the posters are developed under a free content license -
and
2) that all posters are developed in svg format (scalable vector
graphics format). See for example: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Svg
This is an XML graphics format that can be scaled to any size without
loss in quality. Furthermore this is an open standard and there are
free software authoring tools which support this format, for example,
Inkscape.
This means that anyone will be able to edit or modify the poster -
which will help us in promoting the translation of posters into
different languages.
OK - here is the deal. The Commonwealth of Learning will post a
"bounty" for the prizes of the first competition.
Lets say, for example ...
First prize: CAD$ 800
Second prize: CAD$500
Third prize: CAD$200
What I'm going to need from the community of teachers is:
1. Help in designing the project - i.e. the competition rules
2. Help in promoting the project around the world - COL will undertake
to develop a promotional brochure - but we need help in determining
the text for the brochure.
3. Help in judging the prize winners.
I'm very keen to offer COL's support in turning this idea into
reality. I'll also speak with my friends in UN agencies to see how we
could extend this idea beyond Commonwealth Countries.
This is a great concept - how do we take it to the next level?

I think this is a great idea, and it shows how we can use and leverage our resources within the community, to move along....
I think a next step would be to see if there's agreement to proceed, and then put up a page on WikiEducator!
Then, there would be ensuing dialogue, consensus-building, and action.
Some issues:
- I think it's important to make sure that there's enough time to get all of the entries in
- Who's going to be eligible to work on it (i.e., how do you define "pupil" - is this High School Student"
- Who are the people who are going to "judge it"?
- Where and how can we promote it - in multiple places, and multiple times - before the due date?
- How can we get a bit o' publicity for this (this also needs lead time) - for during the competition, and then afterwards, (i.e., a news item)

What about an international competition where our youth are tasked
Günther Osswald
one of my grade 11 classes has started to develop ideas on some
science posters for Cambodian classrooms. I have talked with the arts
teacher, and she has promised to support this project. The class
consists of 21 pupils of age 17 to 18, here in Bavaria, south
Germany. Until now I have seen some nice ideas, but it will take
still some weeks to work on that.
