tl;dr I've built another quiz widget for WikiEducator that is
"inspired by" the GIFT format used by Moodle, but tweaked in a way
that makes it more wiki-friendly to author. Multiple choice,
mult-choice, true/false, short answer and fill-in-the-blank questions.

WikiEducator offers a number of quiz tools to provide feedback to
learners working through material in the wiki. We've had the very
capable Quiz Extension[1] which is quite powerful, but rather
inconvenient to author and rather dated-looking by default. In 2010 I
ported a couple of the eXe[2] quiz methods to WikiEducator, modifying
them for ease of wiki authoring[3][4]. At the end of last year I built
a widget[5] that allowed parsing the Moodle GIFT quiz format[6], but
the format was tricky to use in a wiki page because of the free-form
formatting conventions allowed in GIFT.
Wayne has been pushing to expand the quiz options for OERu courses,
but none of the authors have proposed the features they wanted. I've
created a prototype as a starting point that attempts to merge my
earlier attempts at ease of authoring with the ability to reuse much
of the GIFT format.[7][example:8] It continues with the idea that a
quiz is a wikitext list (either ordered or unordered) of questions,
but it embeds the answers in the list item inside GIFT-inspired curly
braces {...}. Each of the answers can have optional feedback, which is
separated from the answer with an octothorpe (#). If feedback isn't
provided by the author, it falls back to "Correct/Incorrect."
In addition to questions authored in the wiki, the widget also allows
the inclusion of all, a random few, or a few specific questions of a
GIFT "question bank" that has been pasted into *a different*
wikipage[template:9][example:10]. The question bank is presumed to
have *only* the questions of the types mentioned above. And, since it
is not a wiki-friendly format, it is presumed it is exported from
Moodle or a quiz tool and pasted directly into a wiki page (or at
least edited in wikitext mode, and the wiki rendering ignored).
Feedback, experience reports, bug reports, and code contributions welcome.
