Dear all,
Here is one more species of Impatiens (dalzalli), documented by Raju Shinde of St Xavier's College, Mumbai.
I have tried to germinate seeds of  some of the wild varieties, but could not manage.
Is there dormancy in the wild that is not present among the garden variety?

Thanks, Robin,
The idea of giving Obama the Nobel is not bad at all. I hope it will give him an edge over his conservative opponents!
Cheers!

Dear Colleagues,
1. After about a month, the Impatiens Group is getting re-activated: Here is a beautiful article on Kin Selection Behavior in Plants. These are highly doable reasearch even in small colleges.

2. The added find is that AJB, the  American Journal of Botany is a wonderful Plant Science Journal and it is Free Access. Enjoy
Cheers!

Dear all,
This is Impatiens time again!
University of Mumbai, Kalina Campus is abuzz with the germinating Impatiens!
So also was Goa, from the first rains around 4th June onwards. Raju Shinde's Kaas plateau- treat of last year can't be forgotten! (Pl see the attachment).

Watch out for a series of trips to Kalina campus by students from various Mumbai colleges. It is indeed a pity, in the north of the country, Impatiens is not that prolific! Else, the ever active Delhi Botany group could be in yet another business!
I will check the Impatiens scene, in and around Indore city, in a couple of days.

With  warm regards,
