Dear Friends,

Its indeed a great pleasure for me to invite you along with your colleagues to be a part of the premiere of Vindhyan Scourge (32 min., Hindi with English subtitles) which would be followed by an open discussion with the film-maker Debadityo Sinha.

This film was under production since 2009 and some of the footages were taken under extreme risks. The film strikes a chord between the rural economy and the environment degradation in context to the prevailing social conditions in India.. It is an outcome of real problems that the film-maker witnessed and which motivated him to make this film entirely on his own, sans any financial support. The objective of the film is to educate people about and draw attention towards an area that has mostly been neglected up till now - the Vindhyas - and is particularly relevant for citizens who are inclined towards environmental activism, socio-economic and development studies, resource management and policy advocacy.

Time and Date: 6.00 p.m., Wednesday, December 21st, 2011

Venue: Jai Bharat Centre, One Hauz Khas Village, New Delhi

A Brief Highlight of the film:

Vindhyan Scourge has been filmed in district Mirzapur of Uttar Pradesh which involved a two year long effort and research, along with some risks of course.  Some of its footages has been also used by media agencies widely and have been quite successfully been able to bring immediate initiatives from public authorities.

The film deals with 4 main issues concerning environment and few other related issues prevalent in the region which includes Increased deforestation: reasons and the consequences on forests and socio economic conditions, linkages between deforestation and agriculture, illegal mining and its consequences on wildlife, man-animal conflicts, reasons and the consequences on both human and animal life/lives, social tribulations and corruption’s role in environmental degradation and importance of eco-tourism for revenue generation and the current plight of such places.

Be there and make this open event successful.

P.S.: This film screening is organised  by Whats Up Bharat, For more info: Ms. Akanksha at +91 99582 13784

Warm Wishes,

Debadityo
