A Small Survey...

Hi all!

I am pleased to write to you regarding a study that is being undertaken by our Principal, Dr. Savithri Singh on behalf of a research group in Penang, Malaysia called PanDora aimed at looking at the use of ICTs in education in the region and started by Dr. Dhanarajan.

 

The main objective of this study is to establish, qualitatively and quantitatively, the extent of and practice in using Open Educational Resources (OER) by Institutions and individuals in the developing parts of Asia.

 

The survey consists of two parts which complement each other. The first would take a snapshot of  both familiarity with and application of  digital educational resources by faculty, academic administrators and academic support people and the second part is a country case study of policy,  practice, and legalities around the issue.

 

I would be grateful if you could some time off and fill up the survey online or on paper. The PDF copy of the survey instrument is attached herewith and the online survey is available at http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/oersurveyasia, in which case you are requested to mark the copy of survey to princi...@gmail.com.

Request to get the survey filled up with as many individuals as you can. The hard copies can be send to Acharya Narendra Dev College, University of Delhi.

Dear friends,

Most of us are part of this group because of our willingness to explore and learn collaboratively.  Open Educational Resources provide an easy means to do that.  But we also know that while the use and creation of econtent is on the increase we cannot say to any level of even guess work how much of the materials are being released under an open licence.  That OER are being considered very important, by our Government ( see NMEICT as well as National Knowledge Commission Reports) as well as Internationally, is well recognised.  We need to have concrete data on "OER use" (or no use)  in the country if we want to do any work towards promoting the use of OER.  Only concrete data talks - please do help us to collect this data.

I am working with a research group in Malaysia that has these very goals.  Professor Raj Dhanarajan (of ODL- Open and Distance Learning - fame) is coordinating this study across Asian region.  A survey format has been prepared (attached)  - I agree is a little too long - but if we are to capture all aspects there was but no option.  I request you to fill these forms and mail them to me or preferably fill them online at  http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/oersurveyasia, and mark a copy to me at princi...@gmail.com.  I am sure with your enthusiasm to promote learning you will not hesitate to take time out to fill up the form.  I request you also please get others to fill this up - you may forward the form, or they may fill it online.
