Hello All,

This email is to remind y'all that we have a meeting this Wednesday evening, June 23rd, at 8:30pm at my house (1654 Grove Street @ Central).  Please feel free to bring food and bevvies and we will share our thoughts, dreams, and plans of action for the Wiggle.

In a lead up to the meeting I have asked the "project gurus" to do some behind-the-scenes work figuring out next steps for each of the 4 projects that we have taken on for this year.  And as the project guru for the "Wiggle Transportation Symbiosis Project," I have decided to practice what I preach and throw y'all a little early info regarding my research and subsequent recommendations on streetscape improvements to be approved by the working group as official Wigg Party policy recs:

RESEARCH

Based on my research on the issues surrounding these two problem-spots, below are my recommendations that I would love to discuss with y'all on Wednesday night.  The bike coalition has been pretty inactive on policy proposals and streetscape recommendations for Fell Street especially (see on "On the Level" blog article), so this could really be our chance to pick up the slack (and get some serious attention) in advocating for real improvements to these corridors.

RECOMMENDATIONS

  • Duboce & Church "Clusterfuck Corridor" recommendations:
    • No westbound car traffic on Duboce Ave between Church Street and Noe Street
    • No northbound car traffic on Church Street between Duboce Ave and Market Street
    • Sensored traffic light at Church Street/Duboce Ave that gives priority to light rail vehicles
    • Sensored traffic light at Steiner Street/Duboce Ave that gives priority to light rail vehicles
    • Bicycle traffic light at Duboce Ave bikeway to indicate to bikes a train is coming out of the tunnel
    • Separated bicycle lane on Church Street between Duboce Ave and Market Street
    • Separated bicycle lane on Duboce Ave between Church Street and Noe Street
    • Elevated MUNI train stops on Duboce at Church (both sides of street)
      • to prevent pedestrians from crossing from train stop to sidewalk without using crosswalk and dangerously J-walking in front of bicyclists
    • physically separated MUNI light rail vehicle lanes from Duboce Ave to Noe Street (both ways)
      • to prevent cars from cutting off MUNI/slowing MUNI down
  • Fell and Divis "Bikes vs. BP" intersection recommendations:
    • No lefthand turn for cars from Fell Street to Scott Street
    • Eastbound bicycle lane to replace car parking on Fell Street from Baker Street to Scott Street
      • painted green
      • protected from Fell Street traffic by soft-hit posts
    • BP/ARCO station car entrance/exit moved to Divisadero Street

Finally, there are two important meetings coming up in August that I think our working group should all go to to have our voice heard as a strong and committed community group, so put these in your calendar now before you double book the dates!  We will not have our regular WiggTrans meeting in August so we can make time for these two meetings:

UPCOMING MEETINGS

Duboce Triangle Neighborhood Association meeting:
  • Monday, August 9th
  • 7:00pm - 9:00pm
  • CPMC Davies - North Tower Building
  • Level B (basement) Auditorium
  • Between 14th St. and Duboce Ave. (@ Scott Street)
This meeting's main focus is going to be discussing the Duboce/Church clusterfuck, so it is really essential we are there and have our voices heard!

Masonic Avenue Streetscape Improvement 2nd Community Meeting:
  • Wednesday, August 11th
  • 7:00pm - 9:00pm
  • San Francisco Day School
  • 350 Masonic Ave @ Golden Gate
This meeting is on entirely changing the streetscape of Masonic from Oak Street to Geary Blvd.  This is an incredibly important meeting to fix the bicycle crossing at Masonic & Fell!  If you don't have time to go to the meeting, please fill out WalkSF's "Fix Masonic" survey to get your voice heard on the issue.

Thanks so much for your continued interest and involvement and I can't wait to see you guys on Wednesday night!
