I have this app installed on my Samsung Note3,
Android 4.4.2, rooted but otherwise stock.
I have a main router and a repeater, both on same SSID, both on channel
3. I am using the fine Wifi Analyzer app to follow what is going on.
This morning, when my phone woke up and connected to wifi, it was
closest to the repeater and Wifi Analyzer shows the phone connected to
the repeater - which makes sense. However, later in the day in my home
office, which is very close to the main router, Wifi Analyzer reports I
am still connected to the repeater and I can see my wifi performance
slipping.
So I installed this app hoping it would see the stronger wifi signal
from my router and connect me to that source. According to the Wifi
Analyzer I remain connected to the repeater. And in the info page of
your app I can confirm this as the MAC of the repeater shows as BSSID,
not the MAC of the router. I do see the notification from this app
almost constantly saying "connecting" and the notification text shows
the MAC of the router. But the connection attempt does not seem to
succeed. And I assume this is why the app seems to be trying constantly
to make the change.
I have no idea why the connection attempt seems to fail. I checked in
Logcat and I can at least see a number of onReceive sending an
Activity_State to com.heleron.wifiroamingfix/pause. I see nothing else
related in the Logcat.
The settings for the app are at their defaults. But I also tried
enabling slow AP change but see no difference in the results. The good
signal level should be -65 according to the settings page (although no
value is actually selected in the choices offered - however if I
specifically choose -65 it makes no difference in the results). Wifi
Analyzer shows the repeater's signal strength at -76 while the router is
-61 and occasionally rises to -58.
At this point, I am uninstalling the app since it seems to be doing
nothing for my situation. I think I am trying to use the app correctly
and that it is intended for precisely the situation I have here. But I
could be wrong. Perhaps someone can let me know something else to try?
Thanks
PS - I note this on the web page for the app: "Note: all your APs must have the same SSID (wifi network name), and be
set to different channels/frequencies. The security settings (password)
must be the same on all APs." As stated above, both router and repeater are on the same channel and everything else is the same as well. I don't know if the channel being the same is part of the issue here. But my Asus RT-N10+ will not let me change this. All I can do is choose for it to be a repeater, choose the SSID to repeat, and give it the passkey.
