New Almaden (85C) is among the handful of quads for which we never
obtained a basemap of the same edition and reprint as the USGS topo used
for the plot map, so we were unable to georeference it with the same
level of accuracy as the rest of the plot map collection. You can read
more about our georeferencing process at
http://vtm.berkeley.edu/about/plotmaps.php
The plot map files for New Almaden available on the web site are the raw
scans of the paper maps, not georeferenced map data, which is why they
have no world files. We make them available in case researchers would
like to georeference the maps themselves for their own use.
Sorry I can't be of more help. We may eventually obtain the appropriate
base map for this quad, or attempt to georeference it with a basemap of
a different edition/reprint, but there is currently no set plan to do
so. Also, we'd appreciate it if you could direct future questions to
the Wieslander Discussion Group:
http://groups.google.com/group/wieslander/
That way everyone can benefit from the response, and you may receive
responses from several people who worked on the project.
Thanks for your interest in VTM!
