Spatial insight company, Cadcorp has made significant updates to its GIS software in the first service release of Cadcorp SIS 9.1. It brings a host of new features, optimisations, and enhancements to Cadcorp SIS Desktop, Cadcorp SIS WebMap and Cadcorp GeognoSIS and additional support for Ordnance Survey (OS) data products.
With an emphasis on efficient data management, SIS Desktop now offers an OGC Utilities page. This enables users to manage OGC GeoPackage database files, including adding spatial indexes to a database file and merging separate database files into a single new file. A popular application for this new utility will be for consolidating multiple files downloaded from the OS Data Hub for simplified data and file management.
SIS WebMap supports the what3words (w3w) extension which allows the user to zoom to any w3w address, or to click on the map to learn the w3w address for that position. The new release of Cadcorp SIS WebMap for Power BI allows resources within Microsoft Power BI such as point, area and line data to be displayed over background maps with dynamic styling options. A link to an Incident Recording System, popular with UK Fire and Rescue Services, has been updated and allows incident locations to be validated on a map.
About Cadcorp
www.cadcorp.com
Cadcorp helps organisations derive meaningful and actionable intelligence from data. We do this with an extensive range of GIS software, spatial data and consultancy services designed to better inform decision-making. With our technical knowledge and expertise, we know how to support our customers in realising the benefits of location information.
More than ever, organisations are using location both to respond to service user needs and to meet stakeholder requirements. This major software release from Cadcorp has been designed to help derive even greater insight from data that, in turn, can be used for actionable intelligence.
There is an abundance of new tools for drawing, routing, analysis, and processing in SIS Desktop. Pens, Brushes and Symbols used in styling themes can be specified as Expressions allowing, for example, style sizes to be specified on the output device. There are extra options for more aesthetically pleasing placement of labels in polygon items and a new cluster theme that provides an effective way to dynamically visualise large volumes of points.
New process operations have been added to SIS Desktop to speed up data capture and to aid data cleaning. Examples include automatically snapping field data capture to the underlying footprint on the OS MasterMap Topography Layer, and geocoding tools to convert postcodes or addresses in a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet to real-world locations using OS Data Hub APIs.
As a data entry time-saver, the table window has additional functionality such as improved search, copy and replace, and autocomplete. Microsoft Excel-type capabilities have been added so that users can now filter, more easily sort, and export to Adobe PDF. The table column Statistics command can now generate 3D pie and bar charts that can be exported as an image for embedding in reports and presentations.
SIS WebMap 9.1 is next-generation web mapping. With a modern redesign and an intuitive, browser-independent, mobile responsive interface, it offers a wider range of viewing, analysing, editing, and exporting options. Its Quick Search facility allows for fuzzy searches and enables access to web-based OS Data Hub APIs. It has a new Quick Access Drawer which allows users to see the available base mapping, to manage the transparency of the background, and to toggle business data layers on and off. Hovering or clicking on a feature drills down on the data and displays available attributes, even when multiple layers are selected.
Functionality for embedded maps has also been enhanced and now offers information pop-ups on cursor hover. As in the previous version, SIS WebMap 9.1 can be seamlessly integrated with business intelligence tools such as Microsoft Power BI.
Edit continues to bring editing capabilities to SIS WebMap, such as creating new data, editing existing data, and even deleting data. Users can now take advantage of single-click data capture, copying features between overlays, and merging or combining existing features.
The geospatial web services engine GeognoSIS is faster than ever with simplified and streamlined map and service management. Maps and their supporting files can now be synchronised between SIS Desktop and GeognoSIS, without requiring direct access to the server. This allows end-users to be more self-sufficient, and server security to be tightened. GeognoSIS Dashboard has been added for monitoring the performance and resources being used by GeognoSIS.
Cadcorp SIS is widely used around the world in both the public and private sector, notably in emergency services, government, land and property, environment, energy, infrastructure, and insurance. SIS 9.1 is a functionally rich GIS designed to meet the growing geospatial needs of these organisations and to support users ranging from experienced, highly skilled GIS professionals to members of the public. The software is available in the cloud, or as a download for a local installation.

Until 65nm, cost, which is a function of area, and performance, were the most-cited criteria for a successful design. But as battery-driven mobile devices have replaced PCs as the volume platform for SoCs, power has moved up to the top of the list, followed by cost and performance. Performance is still critical in certain markets, such as servers, but even there more accountability for server power and cooling has made it imperative to reduce power.
With the Internet of Things market, companies are beginning to think of a fourth element to go with PPA, namely security. While PPA (power, performance and area) are well defined in watts, hertz, and nanometers, it is more complicated to quantitatively define security.
Data processing is when raw data has operands applied to it via a computer or server to process data into another useable form. This definition category includes how and where the data is processed.
Also known as the Internet of Everything, or IoE, the Internet of Things is a global application where devices can connect to a host of other devices, each either providing data from sensors, or containing actuators that can control some function. Data can be consolidated and processed on mass in the Cloud.
Theories have been influential and are often referred to as "laws" and are discussed in trade publications, research literature, and conference presentations as "truisms" that eventually have limits.
An approach in which machines are trained to favor basic behaviors and outcomes rather than explicitly programmed to do certain tasks. That results in optimization of both hardware and software to achieve a predictable range of results.
Nodes in semiconductor manufacturing indicate the features that node production line can create on an integrated circuit, such as interconnect pitch, transistor density, transistor type, and other new technology.
A transmission system that sends signals over a high-speed connection from a transceiver on one chip to a receiver on another. The transceiver converts parallel data into serial stream of data that is re-translated into parallel on the receiving end.
The Unified Coverage Interoperability Standard (UCIS) provides an application programming interface (API) that enables the sharing of coverage data across software simulators, hardware accelerators, symbolic simulations, formal tools or custom verification tools.
