UNITED STATES AND HAITI ARE THE LARGEST CONCENTRATIONS OF IGBO STOCK OUTSIDE OF NIGERIA – Prof. Osuagwu

For a man of science (Biochemistry) to be so much at ease in the discourse of history is the unique attribute of Prof. Chidi Osuagwu. He is thorough in elucidating the past as if that had been the singular object of his academic pursuit. He speaks as a bona fide Igbo man who is quite comfortable with his Black African heritage and identity. It is easy to still observe the professor’s scientific background because he tends to apply the skills of his training and profession even as he delves into the subject of history. I challenge the reader to find the time to watch the full-hour YouTube video of this insightful interview with this Igbo sage by the host of Njenje TV, Mazi Ezeoke, titled “The Great Igbo Spirit and Embattled World Igbo”.

Prof. Osuagwu’s narrative is leveraged from the unprecedented achievements of the African slaves in the former French Caribbean colony of Haiti who successfully defeated the imperial army of France and its allies and then proclaimed the first Black republic in recent history in 1804. Before this landmark dateline, the slave of the so-called New World (Americas) had secretly met and solemnly resolved to coalesce their struggle for freedom under the guidance of the adopted Igbo worldview that was known and regarded as the epitome of an ancient African civilization. In that 1791 deliberation, the “Great Igbo Spirit” (Ibo Gran Moun) was uniformly adopted as the guardian angel that would inspire and guide the planned revolt to end the unjust enslavement of African in the Americas and the Caribbean.

Ibo Gran Moun did not only chase the French and their allies out of Haiti, but it also spread to other parts of the New World, where it inspired revolutions that culminated in the emergence of newly independent countries of South and Central America. The slave-trading countries of Europe and the US mobilized in support of France. The free Haitian republic had to be crippled economically by the powers that controlled the global slave trade of the era. As compensation for the loss of its Caribbean colony and slaves, Haiti was mandated to pay double the purchase price of the Louisiana Territory by the US, with compound interest, to France. This pernicious burden has been the cause of the chronic impoverishment of Haiti.

The Great Igbo Spirit has been known by imperial Europe and the US as the antithesis of a global economic order driven by the free forced labor of African slaves. For this, the Igbo were earmarked for extraordinary attention wherever they are domiciled worldwide. The Igbo, seen as the embodiment of a self-determined Black African, is still being looked upon as the stumbling block to a facile implementation of perpetual enslavement and subjugation of the African up till today.

To learn a very important aspect of African history that is still hidden from many, go to the LNC USA website homepage and watch the YouTube video titled “The Great Igbo Spirit and Embattled World Igbo”. Share widely with your social media contacts as usual.
