Umuibe,
I am saddened to learn of the transition of Igwe H. O. Okoye of Ideani who I got to know close-up in 2007 – 08 when the World Igbo Environmental Foundation (WIEF) conducted its premier soli and erosion studies in the community. Igwe Okoye, I could recollect, used to be my elder brother’s casual friend when they both resided nearby each other on Chief Ekwueme Street, Uwani Southern Extension, Enugu before the Civil War.
Chief Okoye was quite an amiable person and was obviously devoted to serving his community as the traditional leader until his death. He collaborated closely with the WIEF engineering team during the year-long study conducted in his hometown which included storm-water runoff patterns and extent of gully erosion development within Ideani and contiguous communities of Uke and Abatete. From what we observed, Igwe Okoye was loved dearly and respected by his community. I have no doubt, whatsoever, that he shall be missed greatly.
On behalf of WIEF, I wish to condole his nuclear family, especially her wife who is also my in-law from Amichi and the totality of Ndi Ideani for this great loss. May his caring and generous soul find a peaceful and eternal rest in the Lord.
Okenwa.

Igwe Oranyelu was indeed an ezi ogo. My family and I mourn as he departs. We pray that the Good Lord will give Ocheze, her children and the Maduka family of Umu-Onyia village Amichi the fortitude to bear the loss; and to continue the good works Igwe left behind. May his soul rest in perfect peace.
