Ihave been recently trying to find a solution for this on the web but did not find something useful or accurate for Ubuntu 11.10. I also consulted the NVIDIA help, but things there did not work for me.

I installed the additional drivers from system settings but they are not fully compatible with my GeForce 6200. First I tried finding how to stop the X server. I succeeded, but another problem was the nouveau kernel.

I'm using nvidia-current driver with Ubuntu 12.10 for the GeForce 6200 card. I think the nvidia-current driver (in the main repository) is available for Ubuntu 11.10 but you probably should update to either 12.04 or 12.10 anyway.

A much better and possibly safer way to get the most recent graphics drivers is adding the Xorg-Edgers fresh X crack ppa to your sources. The line for your sources, instructions on how to use this ppa, warnings and notes on how to deactivate it are found on the Xorg-Edgers Launchpad page.

Adding the ppa will automatically offer you newer versions or bugfixes, and in addition you will be much better off in case you need to remove a driver. This all can't be done as easily with drivers downloaded from the manufacturer.

All versions of drivers have been tested on Windows XP Professional

Service Pack 2, none of them worked. Then a guy said he's using

Win XP Pro SP 3 and NVIDIA 307.83 and it works for him. Then 3

Days ago i did a fresh full install (Formated the hard drive) of Windows

XP Pro SP3, and i'm unable to get any version of NVIDIA driver to

work so i figure that i should install something BEFORE i install

NVIDIA drivers, (Patch, Hotfix... ...something like that) but what?

I have Driver Cleaner Professional Edition installed and from

SAFE MODE i cleaned all that has to do with NVIDIA until there was

nothing left. PC now works normally and asks me for a video adapter

driver when it boots.

The 307.83 driver is installed and just before desktop should show up, a black screen shows up. I'm able to get to desktop only in VGA MODE or Safe Mode WHILE DRIVER IS INSTALLED and i'm unable to access NVIDIA control panel in Windows Control Panel neither in Safe Mode nor VGA mode. Video adapter is properly installed (checked in driver details) and has NO CONFLICTS in device manager. But it just won't let me boot to Desktop normaly.

307.83 is the last supported version of the Nvidia driver for windows XP. That is what I am running on my Windows XP SP3 home edition. NVIDIA always stated to first "uninstall any previous" video driver. Then, reboot and install the NVIDIA driver and reboot. Is this the procedure you are following? Make sure you do a clean uninstall of the previously installed video driver before installing the 307.83 driver. Finally, if you are trying to run this driver on windows 98SE, it does not support that operating system!!!

I'm sorry to hear you are still having problems. If you are sure that all Nvidia software has been removed from your system prior to installing the 307.83 driver (did you check device manager for verification?) then it is quite possible there is corruption in your registry or, possible a corrupt driver download. You may try re downloading the driver just to be sure. I did double check the Nvidia site and the 307.83 driver does support GeForce 6200 cards on Windows XP 32 bit systems. Be absolutely sure you have downloaded the correct driver as the site lists several downloads for the 307.83 driver for various systems.

I'm thinking of downloading some older driver, but i ain't sure which one and dont know where from. The hardware and BIOS are all around year 2005 so the video driver should probably be from around 2006 or so. I don't think NVIDIA really cares as i have been reading about people having troubles with NVIDIA video adapters, it's all over internet.

Yes it works, in the past i used to limit RAM to 511 mb, but it works fine wit 1 gb. I use HIMEMX memory manager v34. UMBPCI also works. I played Call of Duty on best graphic settings for few hours without a single problem in 1024x768 32 bit color. Win 98 SE RULES i got mine pimped up for gaming.

I can work in it for a limited amount of time, the more things i open, the less i can see, it's without video adapter driver. However if i print the screen and paste it in Paint, the picture is clear.

I have downloaded and installed the driver from your link, it's 93.71 and it does allow me to boot to desktop. However the driver caused 2 types of errors to show up and the PC is still useless because i f i do anything, it will restart.

2nd error is the one that i had to recreate and then captured it with my phone because 3 seconds after it the PC reboots, so i couldn't paste it in Paint. It's the nv4_disp error (white text on dark blue background). I recreate the error by trying to run DxDiag, opening any game or trying to open NVIDIA control panel.

Hi,

I use the motherboard B450 AORUS Elite but with an old screen with only VGA plug (no HDMI and no DVI). SO I plug an old graphic card ASUS Extreme N6200TC512/TD/256M wich use NVIDIA GeForce 6200 w/TurboCache chipset and has VGA connector.

In the past, with another motherboard, this goes very well but now with the AORUS one and the last Linux Mint 20 version, I cannot install the NVIDIA driver.

The GeForce 6500 and GeForce 6200 (Gigabyte GV-N62256DP2-RH) came with a CD driver containing ForceWare 76.45 for Windows 9x. But now I can't find on the Internet either a CD image containing this version of the driver, or even at least the driver separately. The disk with this driver looks like this:

On the other hand, for some reason it is very hard to believe that ALL THREE independent sources are lying at once. Yes, and photos of the original GIGABYTE CDs for these video cards, on which support for 9x is clearly indicated, makes you somewhat doubtful. Unfortunately, we won't find out the truth until we find this disk.

It turns out that even on later revisions of disks (Up to version 4.1), they kept a mention of Windows 9x support. And this is most likely not an error. And although none of these disks can be found on the Internet anymore, the first one is still interesting (For GeForce 6500\6200LE), because there is a high probability that the driver you are looking for is there.

Maybe there is some website on the Internet where collectors of old video cards live, from whom you could ask about the presence of such CDs in their extensive collections?

I wonder what version is on your CD and what exactly it looks like? It is known for certain that they soon removed Win9x support from later CD releases (removing the mention of 9x from the cover). Another caveat is that the GeForce 6600GT (NV43) and GeForce 6500 (NV44) were released with some time difference. Therefore, it is quite logical that the GeForce 6500 is equipped with the most recent and up-to-date driver at that time, since 77.72 did not exist at that time under 9x. The Internet archive, unfortunately, did not save the download page for GF6500\6200LE, but for all other cards under 9x, 76.44 from other 6-series cards was relevant for a long time, until the release of 77.72. 76.45 may not have been available for download, but it may have been available exclusively on CD. It is very unlikely that three people from different parts of the world made the same typo at once. What evidence suggests otherwise? In any case, only the real owner of the GeForce 6500 with the original CD, as in the first picture, will be able to put an end to this issue.

To install the NVIDIA GeForce 6200 Video Card driver, download the version of the driver that corresponds to your operating systemby clicking on the appropriate link above. A window should then show up asking you where you would like to save the file. Save the driver file somewhereon your computer where you will be easily able to find it, such as your desktop. Then follow the instructions below corresponding to the file type that youdownloaded

The 304 driver will not compile in a Puppy version as new as Fossapup64 9.5

The needed software is too new a version for it to work.

So compiling the driver is not possible with out doing a bunch of added changes to Fossapup64 9.5

Plus that driver needs a special patch to even try to work.

Same issues trying to compile drivers older than 304.

Linux software has moved on and these very old drivers run packages from Nvidia, never got updated to use newer versions of the software, needed to compile a driver.
