i downloaded the jdk for i386, running on ubuntu, and i got this, any hints?

Omar,

Try clearing your web start cache and see if that resolves the problem.

P.S.: By the way, thanks for stubbornly trying to get this working. If
you are having trouble with getting it running, there are probably x100
other folks who ran into the same issue and gave up without asking.
