LOCAL WEATHER OUTLOOK

Notice
Thanks to everyone who supported me (which means all you loyal WIDEnet members!) in my science fair journey this year! Thanks to your support, I have won seven first place awards at the state science fair, including top honors from the Air Force, Army, Navy, ONR, NOAA, and the American Meteorological Society, and two best of category awards. I am also in the Google Science Fair and will be in another DC area regional science fair with earth and environmental science-related projects later this year.

However, I should be free enough now that I can get more regular WIDEnet updates to you all, and watch out for my packages on the TC Everyday Titan show and on our cable channel. Take a look at a short video summarizing my project here: http://youtu.be/4HeRi72leuw Enjoy!

Synopsis
We’ll have very warm, dry weather for the coming 7 days and beyond, especially the end of the weekend into early next week. Summer sure seems inpatient to arrive!

Day-By-Day Forecast

Tonight:
Generally moderate temperatures and light winds will continue tonight with no rain expected. However, the thermometer could drop near freezing for locations north and west of DC, leading to the potential for frost damage to sensitive plants.

Tomorrow: Light winds and temperatures in the mid-60s will lead to a generally pleasant day, with no clouds in sight.

Saturday: The weekend opens with a taste of what is to come, with warm southerly winds bringing temperatures in the low 70s and clear skies.

Sunday: The real action begins Sunday, as temperatures spike into the low 80s (!) along with mild, breezy winds from the south. Is it summer already?

Monday: Uncommonly warm (or shall I say hot) weather will continue into the beginning of the week, with temperatures in the mid-80s during the day.

Tuesday: The "mid-April heatwave" concludes Tuesday, but not before ushering in more low-80s temperatures. Meanwhile, our long dry spell might finally be broken late in the day as a few spotty showers pass by, but I doubt we’ll see more than a trace if any rain.

Wednesday: We’ll get a better shot at some measurable precip Wednesday, but not by much, as a few popup showers and storms roll past. However, temperatures will still remain in the low 70s.

Thursday: High pressure and dry weather again builds in for the end of the week, with temperatures somewhere around the high 60s—closer to normal for this time of year, but not by much.

Friday: I expect high pressure to remain overhead, brining dry weather, with temps trending about the same or perhaps slightly lower. Just my guess, though.

Extended: We’ll see a generally warm temperature pattern continue into the day 7-14 period, although temperatures shouldn’t be quite as extreme as this week, along with some well-appreciated rain.

Drought Outlook: We currently are under D0 (abnormally dry) conditions, which could be exacerbated by another week of little to no rain. This means that plants and trees could be adversely affected by the dry weather, although not to the extreme extent we’ve seen in Texas. However, this dry spell is likely to be at least partially mitigated by better rain chances in the extended period, but will still be a concern throughout the next few months.

Fire Weather Outlook: With low humidity and breezy winds, we could see an elevated chance of outdoor fires spreading out of control, like we did the past week in several spots in more rural Maryland and Virginia. Probably the best chances will come Sunday with the windy conditions and high temps expected, so be aware out there.

So that’s our week ahead, folks, enjoy the warm weather (but hope for rain!)
