LOCAL WEATHER OUTLOOK

Synopsis
A number of interesting things going on in our weather for the next 7 days. Most visibly but of the least real significance, Tropical Storm Alberto is churning off the coast of Georgia, weakening and trundling slowly out to sea. It'll be no threat to land, and I expect no noticeable impact on our area. Still, it represents the earliest start to our hurricane season that I've seen in my lifetime, so we it may be stronger then the relatively average season currently predicted. I'll keep you all in the loop on any further tropical developments.

The second headline is our stormy week ahead, with showers and thunderstorms expected through Thursday and the potential for some heavy rain and localized downpours--although flash flooding is always a risk, the up to 1.5 total inches of precipitation should help alleviate our current "Abnormally Dry" conditions. However, with rain more showery than soaking and another stretch of dry weather looming, outdoor plants may not be out of the woods quite yet.

Finally, and perhaps of the greatest societal impact (read: What you'll care about most) is our upcoming Memorial Day weekend. Not only will it be dry all the way through, but temperatures will rise into the lower 90s, bringing along the risk of excessive heat exposure. Although it'll be fun in the sun, please be careful to not overexert yourself in the heat--sunstroke kills best when it's unexpected.

Other than all that...enjoy the weather!

Day-By-Day Forecast

Tomorrow: We'll see some low clouds and fog develop overnight and persist through the early morning hours, clearing out sometime around noon. The earlier this happens, the more time the sun will have to heat the ground, giving nascent showers and thunderstorms the energy they need to grow tall and strong. Thus, we could see some storms with heavy rain moving across the area, mainly in the afternoon and early evening hours. Outside of these storms, we'll see rather gloomy conditions, with clouds, showers, and up to half an inch of rain, with temperatures in the mid-70s.

Wednesday: A somewhat less eventful version of Tuesday, with showers and perhaps a storm or two, along with clouds and sun (mainly clouds) and temperatures in the high 70s. We could again see around a half-inch of rain, especially in the stronger showers and storms.

Thursday: Thursday will be a transition day in the weather, as we brighten up and dry out, but a few showers and storms could hang around, especially earlier in the day. It should be around the same temperature as the previous two days, upper-70s to near 80 degrees, as clearer, sunnier skies offset a northerly wind shift.

Friday: The ramp up to the holiday weekend's weather begins as temperatures climb into the mid-80s, under generally sunny skies.

Memorial Day Weekend: We'll see Friday's weather return for the weekend, only hotter and drier, with a succession of sunny days with temperatures slowly climbing past the 90 degree mark by Monday. Great pool weather for sure, but be sure not to get beat by the heat!

Extended:
My (semi-educated) guess is that we could see a few more days of warm, dry weather, followed by generally milder, wetter conditions for mid-week through late week.

It looks like a great Memorial Day weekend coming up...we just have to make it through a few more days of unsettled weather first. It looks like summer's coming a few days early next weekend, so get ready to hit the pool--or even better, the beach. With Hurricane Alberto still churning offshore, surf's up...and so is my time. As always, enjoy!
