WINTER WEATHER OUTLOOK
A brief statement on the possible event Wednesday: I am expecting a minor snow/mix event tomorrow, possibly affecting the evening rush. Impacts overall should be generally light, but anyone on the roads late Wednesday afternoon and evening could experience delays and slippery spots during their commute. I don't have most of my data up, but I'll try to give a rough picture of what will likely happen.
Timing: Light rain begins in the morning from south to north. Changeover to a slushy mix in the afternoon hours, and then pure snow later in the afternoon/evening as the changeover completes. Snow tapers off by midnight.
Impacts: Ground temperatures should be too high for snow to start accumulating until evening, and roads should stay generally clear at least until after dark, but could still be slippery or slushy in spots. By morning problems should be minimal as the snow is cleared and any mix or slush is gone.
Accumulations: Up to 1 inch on grassy surfaces around DC and pts north and east, with around a trace to a few tenths south and west, as well as on roadways everywhere. Minimal sleet/ice accumulation.
Temperatures: High 30s around DC in the afternoon, with temperatures dropping into the mid-30s after snow begins to fall.
Winds/Visibility: Generally light and not a major concern.
Enjoy the dusting, as that is all we could see for at least a week or two. Thanks.
