Wickham Park marathon cancelled

I cancelled the Wickham Park marathon. The park finally caught on to
what we were doing and demanded a permit and $1 million liability
insurance policy to hold the event.
Instead I will be maintaining a web page for fastest known times, like
I do for Nolan's 14 (which was cancelled for similar reasons). You can
run any time on your own (starting June 1) and submit your time and I
will post it to http://mattmahoney.net/wickham/wickham.html
You can find the rules for how to submit times there as well.
Since this is a public park where anyone can run trails, there is no
rule that says you can't bring some friends when you make your FKT
attempt. I might do a bit of running on June 17. I won't be marking
the course in advance, however. I won't have a clipboard so you will
need to record your own time if you plan to run that day too.

Unbelievable!
After 8 years in a row of running this, I'm not about to stop now.
As you said, it's a public park. So, on Sunday, May 29, I will be running 50 miles down those old familiar trails.
If anyone else wants to run at the same time... well...it's a public park.
I will keep track of my time on a piece of paper on my car's hood. If anyone else wants to write something on it also - well, it's a public park.

I suggest bypassing the scout camp by cutting left at the canal on an access road that intersects Sahara Street. This avoids a friction point with a group that has been renting the scout camp the past few years.
It's a tad shorter. I'll measure it the next week and work out a fix to establish a 6K loop.

Well, this is inconvenient.
I actually planned an entire two week, multi-state work trip premised on and planned around this event.
Can't wait to see the boss's reaction when I tell her I'm cancelling.

not counting any times before June 1 (and I won't be there). I am
planning to run on Sat. June 17. Sat. June 4 would work for me too but
I am doing the Pineappleman triathlon the next day so it won't be 50
miles. In any case, you can pick the day that's most convenient. The
course won't be marked in advance and you will have to record your own
times and let me know. When I do run, I might carry a bag of flour on
the first lap.

I understand, Matt.
I don't think there will too many of us showing up. Really, only those of us that have that course burned into what's left of our brains will be able to run it without getting lost. I will heed Jim's counsel to avoid the scout camp; if it's a little short, I'll just run around a tree several times to make up the distance.
If anyone from the Park confronts me, I'll tell them that the race was cancelled and I personally am just using a public park.
My biggest regret will not seeing all those other crazy ultrarunners. It's nice to briefly associate with people who are totally unimpressed by someone running 50 to 100 miles or more.
On the other hand, if I knew there would be a number of us running on Saturday, June 18 (the 17th is a Friday) I might be willing to wait until then.
Of course, by June 18 any chances of snow on the course will be out of the question.
Any of you who want to still run this course, let your preferences be known. What are ultrarunners if not adaptable?

There are other venues in central Florida? Little Econ forest is a possibility. Just ran a nice 20 mile all trail long run several weeks ago. Could easily accomodate the group. Just a thought.

I'm thinking, if I can work out a 100 mile run, I might just do it by myself someday. Those look like some really beautiful trails!
