Greetings, fellow athletes! (Although to be honest, I feel like I fit only loosely into that category!)
I know it's been a while, but I had to let you know about a new class specifically for you guys--that is, the endurance athletes. I've been wanting to merge my endurance training and yoga knowledge bases for a while, and this January, I'll finally have a chance to do it!
What I'm talking about is a new Endurance Athlete Yoga class that I'm offering at Genesis! The class will focus not only on training strength and flexibility in all the ways that we swimmers, cyclists, and runners need it, but also on developing the mental focus and single-mindedness that it takes to excel in endurance sports.
So the details: Classes will begin the third Saturday in January, Saturday, January 15, at 11:30 a.m. This should be late enough in the day that you'll be done with your long rides/runs, but not so early that you'll be starving for lunch. In fact, maybe we can make a tradition of eating lunch together after class!
Classes will be held at the West 13th location, because we can get the room nice and warm, which will make our muscles more supple and responsive.
Cost for a six-week session will be $50 for Genesis members and $65 for non-members. I think that this is a really good price. I really want this resource to be accessible for everyone!
If the time and location won't work out for you, please let me know. If we have enough interest in the program, I'd also like to get a group going at Rock Road. If I can do that, you may attend either class, or both in a single week, if you like, at no extra cost. In order for this to work out, though, I need at least 20 people to sign up.
The stretches and relaxation techniques we use will be accessible and beneficial for swimmers, cyclists, and runners, so if you're not a full-fledged triathlete, you can still get a great deal of benefit from the class. And the mental training will include work on focus, positive self-talk, use of imagery, and setting a positive intention for your training and/or racing.
To show you what I'm talking about, I'll be offering free preview classes--one on Sunday, January 2, at 1:00 p.m. at the Rock Roadlocation, and one on Saturday, January 8, at 11:30 a.m. at the West 13th location. You'll have the opportunity to experience the strength, flexibility, and mental training available to you through this unique program. Please dress in layers (the room will be warm, but you will warm up and cool down as you practice yoga, especially as we relax at the end) and bring your own yoga mat. If you don't have a yoga mat, you can find them priced very reasonably at any big box or sporting goods retailer (i.e. WalMart, Target, Sports Authority). Please arrive 5-10 minutes early to set-up and get settled before the class starts.
If you have any questions, please let me know! You can reach me by e-mail, phone, or text at the contact info below.
Hope to see you there!
