Workshop Overview  

 

This training utilizes a national curriculum recommended by the Academy for the Certification of Brain Injury Specialists (ACBIS) for entry-level staff and experienced professionals. A sampling of the topics included in the training manual are:

  • Incidence, epidemiology and anatomy of brain injury
  • Cognitive, psychological and social consequences of brain injury
  • Behavioral approaches for managing challenging behaviors and promoting positive skills
  • Techniques for effectively working with families, and
  • Health and medical management

Following the day long training, participants will take a written exam to earn a nationally recognized credential- Certified Brain Injury Specialist (CBIS). 

 

 

Audience

 

This training is specifically intended for vocational service providers (and others) intending to take the test to become a Certified Brain Injury Specialist (CBIS). Targeted groups include: MCO Vocational Coordinators and Care Managers, Self Directed Supports Waiver Consultants, Supported Employment Providers, DVR Counselors, Veterans' Administration Counselors, Technical College Counselors, Community Employment Organizations, and Pathways Regional Coordinators.  

 

 

Prerequisites

 

1. Attendees are required to complete the Certified Brain Injury Specialist (CBIS) APPLICATION on line at http://www.aacbis.net/aacbisform2.html using the following GROUP NUMBER: WBIAC09. Cost for those taking the exam are covered by the project. Please choose the "Pay by Check" option on the application and print the collection statement to send with the forms listed below.

2. Attendees must obtain a completed WORK VERIFICATION FORM  available from ACBIS at http://www.acbis.pro/documents/Employmentverification.pdf. The WORK VERIFICATION FORM, DETAILED RESUME and COLLECTION STATEMENT must be mailed WITHIN ONE WEEK of your Registration and Application completion to the Group Coordinator at BIAW 21100 W. Capitol Drive Suite 5 Pewaukee, WI 53072.

 

 

3. Attendees must prepare for the training by reading The Essential Brain Injury Guide, which will be provided to registrants free of charge. IT IS NECESSARY TO READ AND STUDY THE GUIDE PRIOR TO ATTENDING THE TRAINING TO SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETE THE TEST.
