Hello, Mr. Kmoch!
Hope all is well with you and NCWIT in WI.
I just wanted to reach out to pass along the following free opportunity for high school students. This year I am Co-Director of the University of Chicago's hackathon, Uncommon Hacks. Because of the pandemic, the opportunities for high school students to get hands-on experience with technology are much more limited, as I am sure you are aware. Due to this, Uncommon Hacks has opened registration for high school students. I know this would have been something I would have really enjoyed in high school, and I hope that you will pass it along to the participants of NCWIT in Wisconsin. There is no experience necessary and we have several coding beginner events this year for the novice hacker. Please let students know that they can reach out to
cel...@uncommonhacks.com or to me personally (
aha...@uchicago.edu)~ I am always happy to help out another NCWIT-er!
Here is our official information:
On April 2-4, Uncommon Hacks @ the University of Chicago will be hosting our SIXTH annual hackathon, where students from across the world 🌎 will convene virtually to build innovative, zany, and entirely uncommon technical projects 🧑🏽💻. No experience required! Students at all levels of familiarity with programming 💾, hardware 🤖, and design 🎨 will have opportunities to learn new skills through workshops and contribute to team or individual projects. We will also host sponsors from technical companies 🌇 to mentor projects and connect with students.
This year Uncommon Hacks is going cyberpunk! We'll have workshops on
game building, design, and animation as well as mainstays such as
intro to programming, front- and back-end web dev, and technical career skills.
Hacking time will be interspersed with
social events for folks to make new friends and take their minds off hacking.
Thank you so much! Please let me know if you have any questions!
Warmly,
Anne (she/her/hers)
Co-Director of Uncommon Hacks 2021
