Registration is now open for the 2026 Pathfinders Summer Institute. We are offering the same course as in past years and are excited to get another large cohort of educators to expand their micro:bit knowledge.

Hi, Amy.
My name is Jesica Helgren, and I'm currently a science teacher. I am looking to add a CS license. I was hoping you could offer some advice as to which course offered here through pathfinders you think would be most helpful to me in preparation for the Praxis exam? I have some coding experience, however, I am aware I still have gaps in my knowledge and would like to fill those before taking the test.
Also, if you have any resources for me that would be helpful, I'd appreciate any support you can provide (especially financially, lol).

Thank you!

Jesica Helgren

Hi all,
I am seeking  guidance on the formal pathway to becoming a certified Computer Science teacher in Wisconsin. I recently joined the faculty in a High School in Janesville on January 19, 2026, and I am currently working under a License Type: T001 - Teacher.

I hold a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and a Diploma in Teacher Education. To maintain my eligibility for an emergency license renewal, the DPI has advised that I must enroll in a certification pathway and complete at least six credits before August 30, 2026.

  • The most efficient certification pathway for my background (e.g., an add-on license or an alternative route).

  • Recommended programs or courses that would satisfy the 6-unit requirement by the August 30 deadline.

  • Any specific Wisconsin Content Guidelines or examinations (such as the Praxis) required for the Computer Science (1575) endorsement.

Thank you for your time and for helping me ensure I remain compliant with state licensing requirements while serving my students at Craig High School. I look forward to your guidance.
