Good morning,
Marquette University chapters of ACM, ACM-W, and Upsilon Pi Epsilon welcome high school students to participate in a morning of computer science problem solving, design, and storytelling! Students will have the opportunity to demonstrate their skills in Java, Python, or Scratch; or use their abilities in the general areas covered by AP Computer Science Principles. This year we are planning on holding both virtual and in-person options for the competition on April 15th, 2026.
This year's Wisconsin-Dairyland Competition will feature three divisions:
Blue Division (Java/Python) - A traditional team-based programming competition, modeled on the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC). Teams of 3 or 4 students will have three hours and two computer workstations to collaboratively solve problems similar in scope to Advanced Placement Computer Science (AP CS) exam questions. Points will be awarded based on the number of problems correctly solved and the time taken to submit a working solution, with appropriate penalties for incorrect submissions. Development environments available will only include Eclipse. We recognize schools might use different IDE’s but due to the increase of AI presence in other tools, we are only allowing Eclipse this year.
Gold Division (Scratch) - Teams of 2 or 3 students will have three hours and one computer workstation to implement Scratch challenges. Submissions will be judged on use of key Scratch constructs, creativity, and theme correspondence (how closely submitted projects complete the posed task). This division will be suitable for introductory students with any level of familiarity with Scratch. Students MUST bring their own laptops to compete in this division. On personal laptops we are only allowing the use of Python IDLE, once again due to the increase of AI presence in other IDE’s.
Eagle Division (AP CSP) - Teams of 2 or 3 students will be working together to solve challenges and present their results, similar to the concepts tested in the AP Computer Science Principles exam. More information will be shared via email closer to the competition date.
Artificial Intelligence Policy:
We are not allowing the use of AI at our competition. Violation of this policy may result in immediate disqualification of the team. Virtual students are held to the same academic integrity standards.
Competition Location: Marquette University or Virtually,
1313 W. Wisconsin Ave, Milwaukee, WI 53233 (Katharine Reed Cudahy Hall). We are offering a virtual option for teams who otherwise cannot make it in-person on the day of the competition.
