Hi,

We are planning to introduce AI as a semestral course for middle school next year. I have checked Code.org and they have a separate curriculum. May I have your feedback on this please esp about timelines and lessons fit for Gr 7/8.

Also, are there other platforms that you will recommend?

Thanks,
Rosilie

I have had great success with the common sense media AI curriculum!

Project STEM has a pretty good curriculum. I use it over 6 weeks with 8th graders. It focuses initially on good-old-fashioned AI and moves to generative AI in the second halfish. I supplement a little bit and have them test out some student-facing tools from Magic School.

Thank you all for your inputs. I have  used  AI micro-lessons (Tynker, Dance with AI, CommonSense, Scratch) for coding that normally run for 1-2 weeks.

I will definitely see your suggested curriculums!

Many thanks,
Rosilie

Hi everyone. It was pointed out to me that there is an organization called Project STEM that is different from the Project STEM I use. The one I use is through the Amazon Future Engineer program. Here is a link to their offerings for middle school. I use CS Explorations 2: AI in our World.

Hello there. The AI Foundations course in Code.org is one option for incorporating AI into your classroom but there are other curriculum pieces and lessons as well. I facilitated a 3-day workshop on the AI Foundations this summer at Marquette University and a 5-day in lower Michigan and am presenting on it at our Wisconsin CS Summit November 11. Code.org has done an excellent job with AI curriculum. I would be happy to answer any questions you have at the summit!
