HeyDid

AP Computer Science A

Dear AP Computer Science A Teacher,

Will you be teaching AP® Computer Science A (CSA) for the first time next school year, or are you currently in your first two years and looking to build more confidence with Java?

This summer, the AP Program is offering six free Java Content AP Summer Institutes (APSIs) designed specifically for new and early career AP CSA teachers. These workshops are different from traditional CSA APSIs and can be paired with a regular APSI if you choose. The APSI registration fee, hotel, and travel costs will be covered by the AP Program.

Each participant will apply and be matched to one of the six Java Content APSIs:

June 22–25: Texas Christian University, Fort Worth, Texas

July 7–10: University of South Florida, Tampa, Fla.

July 14–17: AP-TIP Indiana, Indianapolis, Ind.

July 20–23: Mass Insight Education, Bridgewater, Mass.

July 27–30: Silver State—Clark County, Las Vegas, Nev.

August 4–7: Rutgers University, New Brunswick, N.J.

What Makes the Java Content APSI Different

These APSIs are more time‑intensive than a standard AP CSA APSI to ensure deep support in learning Java. In addition to the four-day in‑person workshop, participants must also complete:

Two remote pre-sessions (3 hours total)

Three evening lab sessions during the APSI (6 hours total)

Eight remote post-sessions (8 hours total)

Application Timeline

February 26: Applications Open

March 20: Applications Close

April 15: APSI Offers Sent

April 22: Deadline to Confirm Participation

Along with this free APSI opportunity, teachers also have access to a range of AP CSA instructional resources, including endorsed curricula and professional learning by AP CSA–endorsed providers, and AP Classroom materials.

We hope you’ll take advantage of the Java-focused APSIs to strengthen your AP CSA instruction and connect with fellow educators.

Sincerely,

Advanced Placement Program

I'm reposting this message that many of you may have received for two reasons:

1) You may not have noticed that these APSI  workshops are FREE to teachers new to Java (0-2 years experience). AP will cover the registration fee, hotel, and travel expenses. It's a FREE learning experience!

2) I am one of the consultants running the Indianapolis Workshop (nearest one to Wisconsin), AND the Rutgers University one in New Jersey. If you attend either of those, I'll see you there!.

If your school or district has new teachers, or will be hiring new teachers who will be teaching AP Computer Science A in Java, register now!

So, I would need zero knowledge of java to attend?  I am interested but my knowledge of java is not much. :)

Thanks,

Jesica Helgren

Zero knowledge is perfect!  This is the APSI for you, assuming you're teaching AP Computer Science A next year and have 0-2 years experience in the course.

Ah, okay. I hope to teach it in the future but it will not be next year.  It would be a new course at our school and the course approval deadline has come and gone.
If offered again in the future, I will keep this in mind. :)

Thanks for the quick response.
Best,

Jesica
