Subject: MiHG Meet Agenda, 3-19-11

Hello to all MiHG members and friends,

“These are the times that try ones (men’s) soul” was the opening
line in the December 23, 1776 Thomas Paine pamphlet called, The Crisis.
This sentiment could well be felt by many non MiHG members as they begin
to confront raising fuel costs that we’ve talked about over these last
five years.  You have created a driving reality that will mitigate much
of the effect of these raising prices and in addition have become a
safer driver as well. We have seen this coming (again) and are well
prepared to meet the crisis on our terms.

However, many of your relatives, friends and associates have little clue
on what they can do to weather these rising costs. This is where you
must step up and let them know that they have options. As members of the
MiHG and Drive $mart drivers, you have the skills and knowledge to reach
out and make a difference in the lives of thousands of drivers. This is
what you’ve been working so hard at, to become the best and safest
fuel efficient drivers in this country.  We urge you to talk to others,
invite them to our Meet, or ask them to check out our website, but do
something. As families are hurting with these higher fuel costs, this is
your time to shine and to pay what you know forward.

And now let’s talk about the specifics of our first MiHG Meet of
2011in two words, Chevy Volt. MiHG PT member and founder of CleanMPG
Wayne Gerdes will do a setup piece on the Chevy Volt which should
include publicity and background material from General Motors.  Then
we’ll have a chance to listen to the real life experiences of a Chevy
Volt owner. Bill Robbins, former Hybridfest Board member and former
hybrid owner, has driven his Volt for over 2,500 miles after picking it
up on New Years Day in Washington DC. His story will be very insightful
because there are not too many Chevy Volts that have been driven in the
colder climates in the country. So expect Wayne to present the
possibilities of the Chevy Volt and Bill to add the real world realities
of his Chevy Volt. This should be quite informative to say the least.

For our first timers, here’s the way things generally work at a meet.
We begin to gather in the Library parking lot about 9:15am to schmooze
and show off our vehicles. If the weather is good, we’ll begin
check-in and our VTP’s (Vehicle Tire Pressures) at that time.  At
10:00am we’ll begin to setup our room and by 10:20 we should be set to
begin our introduction round robin.  We’ll have a short session and
then take a short break for snacks and item sales. We’ll then have our
main session and offer some updates, reviews, news, short subjects and
door prizes and then break for lunch about 12:00 pm. After our potluck
lunch, we’ll begin our Drive $mart sessions about 12:30 pm and begin
cleanup. Beverages and utensils will be supplied but we encourage all
attending to bring some food to share. (Main dishes are greatly
appreciated). Be prepared to be gracious, with the understanding that
the agenda usually does not follow the time line.
