Amazon EC2 Now Offers Reserved Instance Modifications

We are excited to announce the ability to migrate your Amazon EC2 Reserved Instances (RIs) between Availability Zones in the same Region and between Network Platforms to and from Amazon VPC. RIs allow you to make a low, one-time payment to reserve compute capacity for a one- or three-year term and receive a significant discount on your hourly compute charges.

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES) is now available on the AWS Free Usage Tier. Amazon RDS Supports New High Memory Instance
A new High Memory Amazon RDS database instance type (db.cr1.8xlarge) is now available for high performance database workloads. The db.cr1.8xlarge instance has 244GB of memory and 88ECUs of compute capacity. This instance type makes it possible to realize up to 20,000 IOPS for MySQL. These specifications make this instance type an ideal candidate for high performance workloads in enterprise, social media, mobile applications or gaming.
