The world is in the dark,
The spark seems far away.
The path to heaven is hidden from eyes,
And demons are on their way.
Where is the peace and harmony?
Where are the eyes of love?
I walked and walked in search of my God,
Who would rescue me and conquer
The selfish and cruel people,
Who aim at drowning the true spirit of living.
But as this Journey ensues,
My search leads me within.
The selfish and cruel people are none,
But the thoughts within.
My God is nothing,
But my willpower alone.
So here is the beginning!
Here is the prelude!
Let’s Awaken what good resides within,
Let’s Awaken the true spirit of living…

The experience so sweet and profound…
18 days, 13 destinations, 9400 kms, 400 unknown faces and 1 train- The
TATA JAGRITI YATRA left me numb for days. Embarked on the journey to
Social Entrepreneurship, the yatra was not just a physical exercise
but an intellectual and emotional too.
The Tata Jagriti Yatra aims at promoting “Enterprise led Development”
by galvanizing young minds. This Yatra gets 20-25 year olds in direct
contact with successful entrepreneurs whose efforts have had a
significant social impact. By showcasing these role models, the Yatra
seeks to demonstrate the power of enterprise in delivering social
benefit, in generating new sources of employment and raising standards
of living. Moreover, by listening to the personal stories of these
role models, Yatris are prompted and inspired to adopt enterprise
early in their careers.
Each role model entrepreneur presents a unique approach to the concept
of enterprise led development. From the tribal hinterlands of Orissa
where Joe Madiath established Gram Vikas to the desert town of
Tiloniya where Bunker Roy has set up Barefoot College; from the
beautiful backwaters of Kerala (home to Paul and Sabriye’s
International Institute for Social Entrepreneurship) to Anshu Gupta’s
complex clothing logistics operations in Delhi (Goonj), each
institution is distinctly different.
The TRAIN happened to be a comfortable home, much to my surprise. And
more interestingly who made it a comfortable home? ENGINEERS….yes! of
the all the people travelling on the yatra, approx. 70% were engineers
ranging from IITians to geeks from regional colleges and my group mate
from Super 30…(does that ring a bell?). This is also reflective of the
FACT that Engineering bandwagon is taking utmost efforts to carve out
a strong destiny for India. Social Entrepreneurship is close to their
heart and they understand that Profits can be reaped through an
effective model and a passionate vision.
The journey helped me closely observe Budding Entrepreneurs who felt
that books enlighten but life is much more than that. Hence comes,
Sanjay’s “Challenge By Choice”- a volunteer on the yatra and also the
brain behind our specially designed Bathrooms. Then there was Mannan
Pacha- Mechanical Engineering student at Singapore who is busy
devising an instrument which would forewarn when an individual will
get a heart stroke. Innovation! Ankit Madhogaria, an IITB guy, who
has been working on human resource development to impart skills to the
underprivileged sections. Priyadarshini Phanendra, Chennai based
engineering student, who has been actively teaching underprivileged
and differently abled children to someday find the answer to the
question “why some people are children of a lesser God?”
The enthusiasm to change mindsets and the spree of Enterprise led
development cannot be stopped. And it will definitely not begin in
metros; it will begin where u and I live…the middle India. It has to
start from where we stemmed and where our roots lie today. Ideas are
many. What is needed is a strong passion backed by DO IT attitude.
Technology clubbed with effort and belief in oneself is the need of
the hour.
WE shall be the catalyst for CHANGE…
I AM AT IT, R U??
