The "Boys of 72'"holiday dinner "after action" report.

In attendance this year were..... Tom "Hoff", Oliver Herttua, Bill McGrath, Gary Cooper, Frank Marmorato, Eddie Olearczyk, ( first timer) Dave Saxton ( first timer) Jim Cogan, Rob Mortara, Jeff Goodman, Ralph Petrella and your truly, Glenn LeBoeuf. Jim Albers missed his first EVER get together due to pressing biz in D.C. and Tom Beer was feeling under the weather but will be back in 14'.

 

After catching up with each other's lives, hobbies and afflictions ( and by the way Ol....after what you showed me in the men's room....I would see a urologist asap.) we settled down to dinner...followed by a heated game of "Does Hoff  Know It.!"  Tom Hoff will never ever forget the "EAGLE" has landed, that the House Maj. Leader takes over before the Sec. of State and the billiards table was called the "fancy eatin' table" by the Clampets. . Ollie was, again.....the big winner with a fist full of dead presidents. Next year......though Ollie and Rob want a crack at it.....BILL McGRATH  threatens legal action if he is not chosen to be humiliated in front of his friends. Get rerady Bill/

 

Before we end on a "high note"....I feel I should mention the way-too-early passing of our classmate Donna Simms in Nov. from cancer. No other information is known. I first met Donna in 1965 when she, Bill McGrath, Ralph Petrella and I were in Mr. Desvernine's 5th grade class in Warren. She was my first "crush" and I hated McGrath for a WEEK when she crossed out my name on her white sneakers and wrote "Bill" on them.....throwing me under the bus....for a DRUMMER!!!

 

Frank Marmorato rose to make a toast to old and good friends.....many of us turning 60 now. Frank then did what Frank does best.....elevating the poignancy of the evening by inviting each man to say a few words about what they were thankful for in 2013. Though I feel it would be a breach of confidentiality to list some of the words spoken...I feel confident that we all can wish Jim Cogan well in his plans to move to Austin Tx where he will build a band ( Cogan's Heroes ) and report back to us. Rob Mortara ( bringing his daughter into his construction business)  is selling his house and building his dream house near an airport where he can wake up to the sound of planes taking off and landing. There is no truth to the rumor that he makes his wife dress up like Emelia Ehrhart on their wedding anniversary....but at least we can discount the ugly rumor that he made her dress up like Orville Wright.

 Bill McGrath's son is working at "Comedy Central" in NYC and having a blast. Ollie's business is picking up nicely as he brings his son into the business....Dave Saxon is now playing the mandolin as well as the guitar ....and he works as a landscaper in Berryville, Va. Jeff Goodman's eldest son graduates soon with a degree in English and plans to go for his Masters. Jeff also met Jack Nicklaus this year! We all rejoice in what Eddie O shared as well.....and we pat our pal Ralph on the back as well for 2013.

 

My weight is down about 30 lbs from 2 years ago.... finishing my first book, a historical novel "Marching To The Storm" about 5 diff men in 5 diff regts. ( one cav., one artillery and 3 infantry) and what happened to them at Gettysburg. My son, Max ( 7)  is the light of my life....I continue to enjoy working as a Chartered Ret. Planning Counselor in Colt's Neck...taking guitar lessons once a week....continue doing public speaking....and generally....enjoy a busy "bachelorhood" yet again....with no hapless victims in sight.........yet.

Great after action report. I promise to be there next year. 

Just to add a little to the news mix, I have a hapless victim in sight and will be making it official in California right after Christmas.  My kids and hers will all be there, with my youngest son performing the nuptials as an official online certificated minister.  Some of you met Dina at the HS reunion.

Congrats to grandpa Tom Jack who is now married and sentenced to a life of happiness. Kent McCullough announced his engagement to that VERY cute woman he brought to the 40th reunion. I would like to announce my engagement as well at this time......BUT I CAN'T.....because I'm not dating anyone! DAMN!!!

Yet another very special night for me.  Glenn – thank you for once again taking the time to make sure this happens.  Great job – again!  Let’s face

it – 40+ years after the fact, having this group still willing to make the effort, and actually giving a s&*t about one another, is a wonderful thing in my book.  I dare say most of the world does not.

 

It was awesome to have Eddie O. and Dave Saxton make the trip this year.  The true test will be next year…………let’s see if they if they return!
