Dear Rosemary, Thanks for the advice. I don't have a display case---just shelves. I'd love to have a lighted case with glass shelves and mirrors but I'm starting out with such a small budget that it will be some time before I can even think of that. I'm selling purses too and I have most of them hanging on wall mounted coat hooks. Only problem with that is that now the weather has turned really cold and the salon clients have no place to hang their coats! I'll have to do something about that fairly soon.

By the way----Aaron's jewelry is too pretty to just be laying on a shelf!   His merchandise should really be "displayed"!

Check in your t0wn and see if you have a "graveyard" for used showcases.  Some people specialize in salvaging good used showcases.  You don't need the "top of the line" to begin with.  I opened up 2 years ago with  only one used showcase and it didn't even  have doors!

Possibly in the phone book under "Used office equipment" or "Salvage merchandise"  or Google it.  Also Ebay might have something but the freight would be outrageous, unless you could go pick it up.  I paid $150 for my first one, then two at $100 each, then a 10 foot wooden one with wood planks and beveled glass from a woman who needed the cash, that one is my pride and joy.

If you have a newspaper, look there.  If you know of a store that is planning on closing or has recently closed, they might have something you can use.

I guess what I want to stress is that you don't need to pay for new at 300 - 500 dollars when you are just starting out.  I just inherited two glassed in, lighted curio cabinets! Everything works out for good!

Is there an IKEA where you live?  They have some free-standing cabinets with glass doors that are very reasonable.

Thanks for that advice. There is one about 50 miles south of us and maybe I can talk the hubby into taking a drive this weekend!

Check their web site, too - there are some things you can buy online.

I do fairs and almost all of my display props come from IKEA - they have all kinds of drapery and these great $5 trees (look in the marketplace section) that store flat and make excellent jewelry displays.

Hello from FT.Wayne,IN !
I just started reading and might throw my 2 cents in!
2 years ago I found out that Walgreens was changing their watch displays ( 6 foot tall, front and back locking doors) One of their store managers asked all of the stores to have theirs but forgot one, by canvasing all of the stores, I got an awesome locking display case for free!!!
Used office equipment stores can be a good outlet, sometimes even garage sales!
Keep your eyes open .
Even an ad in local papers - looking for reasonable priced display cases.
Good luck!   Patrick

Thanks Patrick,

All of your hints sound like more good ideas. I now have some leads to keep me busy for a while. Let's just hope that I strike it rich on at least one of them!! Now if someone could just teach me how to type on this new keyboard of mine, I would really be happy! Well, I'm off to search the phone book. Thanks.
