I am considering adding a catalog to my business. But I would like some feedback. As a wholesale jewelry buyer, do you make most of your purchases by catalog, website, in person?

Would you prefer to place an order by catalog, if I were to send one out, or stick with the website? I am NOT getting rid of the website, just considering starting a catalog as an additional sales channel.

Thanks,

Aaron

Hello Aaron,

Although I would love to see the catalogue I  still would prefer to place the order on your website.

Best regards,
Josette

Hi Aaron,

A catalog might be nice but the web just seems so easy and natural. At the same time, it might be kind of neat to just be able to sit around and browse through a catalog when you don't feel like sitting in front of your computer.

Hello Aaron,
I agree with Renee, a catalog would be nice to have as a reference,
My purchases are about 40 % online, 40% in person, 20% catalog
Thanks again  Patrick

Aaron,

Since most of our business is done at home parties and direct selling,
I would love to see a catalog that my salespeople and I could use with
customers to pre-sell, especially if it had the "Silver Peace" brand
name. However, I would still place wholesale orders on the website.
I have another supplier that does that for us. I purchase the
catalogs from them with the products they offer and we use them at our
parties to pre-sell. The customers love looking through the catalog.
The catalogs are generic and have space for us to put our company name/
contact information, but the great thing is that we can offer the
whole line, customers can browse at their leisure, and we can use the
smaller ones for hand-outs. This is better for us, since we do not
have a B&M store. Again, I still order on line.

That makes sense... Have you tried our Custom Catalog feature? If you login
to the My Account tab on our website, you can test it out. It allows you to
print a dynamically generated catalog. If you have not used it is it because
1) You did not know about it 2) You do not like it, ie not good enough
quality 3) something else?

Because my stock changes so fast, a static catalog is not really practical.
But if the custom catalog is not useful in its current form I can look into
making improvements.

Thanks,

Aaron

I am thinking of a small - like 2 page catalog of specials that I mail out
every month or so... not so much for the regular website buyers but for
those like you said who like to order at work or when they have a minute...

Thanks,

Hi Aaron and everybody,

Catalogues are nice for the pictures, however, with my other vendors, I've had a lot of negative experiences.  I'm always placing orders and finding out that those items are out of stock or they don't have as much as I would like, or that are out of certain colours, etc.  So my experience with catalogues have not been very positive.  With websites, as long as they are up to date, I can immediately see what you have in your inventory.

Aaron I know that you change and add a lot of different jewellery throughout the year.  If you are going to print a catalogue I would just put pieces that are a mainstay, perhaps once in a while send out a special edition.  Leslie from Canada

Aaron,
I do most of my ordering on line, to me a catalog is kind of a waste of money. Your web site is great , jewelry is good, if it ain't broke, don't fix it!  I've gotten a lot of really nice catalogs from a lot of companies, it might look good on paper but when you get your order,  it's totally different. In this market, the more you keep the price down, the more the profit. In the area I live in, it's tough and I really have to be competitive. I keep my shop open all day so the evening is the best time for me to order. This year will be my second year in business again, after 10 years. Thank God people remember me. That and the three other jobs I have keep me paying my bills. My insurance is my problem, I went from $300.00 a year to $2000.00. Anyone who just rents a space is ahead of the game! I'm just hanging on in NC.
Everyone, find your niche  and have a great weekend!
Dena

Are you kidding about "filing" the hardcopy of a catalog (any catalog)?  The only time I have to review these is at bedtime!  Who really wants to stay up half the night sitting behind a computer?  Plus my husband has a real problem with my bringing my laptop or notebook computer to bed with me every  night!

I seldom throw a catalog  away until I review it or until the next issue arrives.  I find it very helpful to a) compare the competion's prices.
Sometimes I clip out a identical or nearly identical item to shop my customers so they can see how much less I charge. And (b) see what's new in the market such as colors, styles.  I consider it "continuing education" that I don't have to pay for.

To each his own, I guess.

Hi there - I for one use both.  Most of the time I order late night with my catalogs, but before placing the order in the morning, I visit the website to see if there are any new items that may not be included in the catalog that I would've missed.  This happens often.  So purhaps do both, but feature new items on your site.
Good luck!
