It's no surprise that we are all going to need to think hard about our product lines in the next year. Price points will be huge.

I am currently working on some designs that I will produce to create a line of very low cost, nice looking gemstone jewelry, with some silver. It will be a line of bracelets, necklaces and earrings made with natural gemstones - most will be small in size to keep costs down, but elegant and modern designs. And all will include at least a silver clasp - I find that the jewelry needs to have at least some silver, even if the amount is very small, to sell well.

#1 What do you think?

#2 If you are a designer and are interested in creating some designs that I can produce, let me know. I am looking for some original ideas. If I like your designs we will work out some kind of deal that will be mutually beneficial to be sure you are appropriately compensated.

Caio!

Aaron,

Yes, having some silver is key.  I bet if you somehow used rose quartz in a heart design, that would do well.  Plus it could be marketed for Valentine's Day.  Also, stones with a sterling (or even pewter) "tag" like peace, love, believe -- doing something unique with these, that would be nice.  Add a couple of freshwater pearls - low cost but classes it up.

I don't design, but what my people come in looking for are tree designs, celtic (Irish) crosses - some things that would not necessarily be a fit for you but what about an elegant cat with green (peridot) eyes?  I'm thinking a panther, long clean lines, very 1960's ...

I hope you find your designer!

Laura

Hi Aaron,

I think the idea of a less expensive line of jewelry is a good one.  We do not know what next year will bring with this economy.  Because of health issues I am forced to stop vending at Red Hat functions and I am currently selling off my inventory.

I still want to sell jewelry, though, and may do it via a little downloadable catalog.  Still toying with the idea.

How I wish I could design jewelry.  I do dabble in drawing now and again, so I'll see if I can create anything.

Health and Happiness to you and your family,
Rolayne

Hi Aaron,
I think your idea is a positive one. My suggestion is to also create designs that can be made into pendants/necklaces or earings by the buyer.  Clasps can be limiting.  I agree silver is a key component in buyer interest though copper can be very attractive as well.  I appreciate your creativity and committment to collaboration.  If I think of any designs I'll pass them along tho photography is my primary outlet along with fountains.
Best,

Hi Aaron and everybody out there,

I very much appreciate the hard work you put into developping your business and ours - it is truly generous of you.

As a jewelry designer, I am constantly on the lookout for sterling silver bails - the market is very limited and I think this is a product that is very needed. Although there are a lot of bails out there, the range is very limited - there are very few glue on pads as well so, in frustration, I've started making my own.  I am also shopping for bails that would be detachable so my customers could transfer their pendants.  In difficult times, this could definitely be a strong selling feature, I could offer one chain, 2 pendants or a more casual pendant with one for special occasions, etc.

As for finished jewelry, ladybugs, dragonflies, hummingbirds, cute dogs and cats (people love their pets) have stood the test of time.  Also, my biggest ladies jewelry sellers are still multicoloured and natural mother of pearl as well as any eye of shiva  and high end shell jewelry.  With so many faux this and faux that on the market, they appreciate the genuine and the organic. And, they love matching sets of earrings and pendants - these sell really well as they make great gifts.

With Valentines and Mothers Day coming up, I'm looking for finished jewelry with meaning.  Check out www.myobession.com .  I placed a small order with this company but won't be ordering again as they don't wholesale and , some of their products are way too small so you can't even read what's written on them, however, I really like this type of jewelry and am shopping for a vendor who'll provide this product wholesale - the're hard to find.

Hope this helps someone.

Happy hollidays everyone!
