Oh. Well. I guess if I'm part of this group I ought to actually buy
the book, huh?

I'm going to be buying it on my Nook. I don't know if I can lend it,
but if anyone wants me to lend it once I'm done with it, I'm totally
willing. You may have to walk me through the process since I've never
done it before, but I'm willing. :)

Hey Mugs, do we wait until everyone is done reading it before we start
discussing it, or can we chatter about it along the way?

I got the book via Audible a few days ago and have been listening to
it on my iPod as I drive.

Mugs, I'm one of the people that followed you over from Fugly. I've
found some real gems as I've been reading your past blogs, but the
series about Cupcake was absolutely heartbreaking. As I was listening
to the book tonight, it occurred to me that Cupcake's owner is a
sociopath. She allowed him to be in a terrible state by the time you
met him, and she threw him away without a thought in the end. Once
you've read some of the book it would be interesting to know what you
think.

This is going to be interesting...of course , if we find to many of them in our world we'll have to read "The Paranoid Under the Bed" next....

Hi Peanut,

I don't think I have enough information about Cupcake's owner to be sure if she's a sociopath.  How did she treat the people in her life, in particular, her children?  And I think her other horses were well cared for.  I do believe (even though I don't know her) that she had a pathological case of denial and laziness.

I guess I'm going to have to finish the book.  It's almost as scary as the Exorcist.

Hi Deb,

I think in one story she put her child on Cupcake despite the fact
that she thought it was dangerous for her to get on Cupcake's back.
The thing that's surprised me the most about the book is that
sociopathy seems to manifest itself in a lot of different ways.

As far as being the paranoid under the bed - I was already wondering
which of the 200 people at the company I work for are the 8 sociopaths
that should statistically be there. :)

My dilemma is that the only time I have to read this book is at night.

After the kids go to bed.

When it's dark out.

I haven't started it yet (I hope to tonight) but I am sure this is
going to do just beautiful things to my dreams at night :)

Hey Peanut,

that's funny, I was just out walking the dogs and thinking that if we had 25 people in this group, odds are, one of us is a sociopath.  I hope it's not me! :-S worried:-S worried:-S worried:-S worried:-S worried

Hi, all,

This is my first attempt to send an email, so here goes....

I am so intrigued by the comments so far. Looking forward to reading the book.

I don't have the book yet- my library has it, but the copies are being used so I am on the list. I hope to get the book in time for the the Feb 1st discussion.   I didn't realize there is such a high proportion of sociopaths out among us.

Jan, in Virginia
