Let's read Black Beauty! I love this book, and it really makes me think from a horse's perspective!

Mugs, I thought the first book club went fine. We were finding our way through but all of the comments were interesting, whether they occurred in our email or on your website as a comment. Using your website/blog probably worked better as a central place for us to write our comments in.

I think certain books may lend themselves to you having questions up front; others may not. I think if you have questions about the book, throw them out there. Perhaps one of us will throw out some questions also.

But having a date when we will start the discussion helps us to be reading the book at the right time. I was fine with having some discussion about The Sociopath Next Door even before our Feb 1st discussion date. (By the way, I thought our recent reading of this book was so timely given the horrible actions Josh Powell did to himself and his sons.I immediately started connecting his to the characteristics listed in the bookk.)

But really, how about Black Beauty? It's a classic, and it's wonderful.

From Jan in Virginia

I'm good with it. How many of us got our start in the horse world with that one? There's question #1.

Have you guys started reading the book yet?
Not sure where the intro part is but I'll just say my Hi's here!
My name is Stasha and I am the writer (sometimes boring writer) from
Horsez-R-Us
I am a 2nd year pre-vet student and I'm working at the horse barn at
the University of Minnesota but I am from Maine, yup I'm a Maniac!
This seems like a great idea, and I think it'll help me get off
facebook and actually have something to read.

Introductions are good!  My name is Laura and I'm a preschool teacher in central WA. I have two horses, a Morgan that my child rides and a three year old paint filly, plus three dogs and a handful of banty sized chickens.
What are the books up for consideration?

Hi Laura,

All the books we're looking at are on the Book Club Page.

So far I've got two votes for Barn Blind and two for Black Beauty.

Still taking suggestions and votes until Friday!

I vote for Barn Blind.
My second preference from your list would be The $80 Champion.

I think we should read the $80 Champion soon. It looks good to me. I love underdog stories.

Oh, now I want to read The $80 Champion, too!  It's on my list anyway.  I love the Snowman story.

I once had the privilege to see Harry de Layer jump in a big show at Madison Square Garden!  The announcer called him the "Galloping Grandfather" and, in the jump off, he kicked the butt of several younger professional riders!  He rode fast and stylish and never touched a jump.  It was fabulous!

Hi I just signed up! I'm for either $80 champion or Barn Blind,
since I just re-read Black Beauty a month or two ago. If you do
decide to go for BB, the kindle version is free. :)
