Mugwump,
Well, now that I know how to communicate with the group, I'm off and running!
(Just kidding!)
Here's a suggestion: perhaps before the Feb. 1st discussion starts, we could
each introduce ourselves to the group. Just a few things about us to get to know each
other a bit.

Thanks,

Jan in Virginia

I think the intro's are a good idea...gives me something to do other than fuss about my book STILL not being here.

Did anybody have trouble getting into this Google thingy? I have one person who contacted me and can't get on. Any ideas?

I can pick my copy of the book up at our library tomorrow. I'll have it read before you get yours!
As to intros, I'm a very long time friend and tormenter of Jan's, a short timer with the chronicles. Used to do a lot more riding than I do these days.

I'll introduce myself, might as well. I'm Mugwump. I ride, write and spend way too much time living in my head. I have two horses, 3 dogs, a cat, 2 parakeets, two tortises, and a tank of fish. Oh yeah, there's a kid and a husband in there somewhere.

All are very patient with my daydreamy self as long as they are fed on time.

Hey everyone,

My name is Becky.  I'm currently horseless (going on 6 years of horselessness, not that any one is counting.)  I have a dog who pees on the carpet when I'm not looking, two cats (one who is morbidly obese and a second one who nightly tortures the rodents he catches in a systematic, sociopathic manner), a fish, a husband, an extremely needy 3 year old and a laid back almost 1 year old.  I read books, daydream about traveling, and have never actually "finished" the laundry.  Ever.  Is it even possible?

So, there you have it.  I'm a 30 year old mother of two who lives in California.  I've got a great life, even if I did do a pretty bad job of fulfilling my "never get married, never have kids of my own,  escape California by 18, and travel the world riding horses in every different country" daydreams that I had when I was a kid.

Hi, Everyone,

I'll introduce myself as well. I am 55 years old female, single, who works as an accountant, in central Virginia.  I have only been riding for about ten years, started just ten years ago, and got my first horse four years ago, whom I board at a wonderful large farm (since I don't live in the country or on a farm).  He is a twenty-something Appaloosa gelding whom I adore! We ride pleasure, in arenas, on trails, and go to reining clinics to add variety to our riding. I write about him in my blog A Thousand Pounds of Fragile Horse.blogspot.com. I love to read and look forward to getting this book and discussing it. By the way, I don't have any idea who Gabe is; nor do I know anyone named Gabe. so he must have me mixed up with someone else...
oh, well.....

I'm Kate. I've known Mugs/Janet for centuries and was on a horseback
drill team with her when we were kids. We performed at the Pike's Peak
or Bust Rodeo in Colorado Springs. Mugs/Janet went on to be the
horsewoman and writer that she is. I went on to study English and
ended up a tech writer for a computer company. In my youth, I did
dally with some horse stuff and was even vice president of my high
school's rodeo club. Now I'm 53 and single, and have just adopted an 8-
year-old half-Australian Shepherd, half-Lord knows what. I was fixated
on getting a Border Collie, as I had a 15-year-old Border Collie who
passed away earlier this year. Somehow I ended up with a dog that's
anything but. On the other hand, she says, "woo woo" on command, so
who could resist that?

Hi,

I'm Deb, Debbie or Deborah, or apparently Redhorse too. I'm having an
identity issue.

I'm older that everyone here. I just celebrated (that's a lie, others
celebrated, I endured) my 59th birthday. I'm divorced, retired, have
1 big green (red)horse, 2 dogs and one cat. I live on a farm in the
midwest, and at this time of year I fantasize on a daily basis about
moving to a warmer, drier climate.

Ok, I'll jump in now.  Deb, you are not the oldest, since I am already
in my 60's.  I have a whole bunch of horses, 2 dogs, and almost as
many cats as horses.  I also have 3 married kids, and 5 grandchildren
whom we just bought a pony for so they can learn to ride.  And there's
a husband in there somewhere.  With all of that, I like to read and
paint, but there's just not enough time in the day to get it all done!

Perhaps I should re try this introduction thing! First, Jan, my apologies! Mugs / Janet,,, I've learned to use Two fingers,,, huh!
I have been riding, horses anyway, since I was about 14. Sadly not so much in the last Hal dozen years. As a teenager I competed some in the local 4h club stuff. Barrel racing, roping. My horse pasted away when I was17. Never was in a position to replace him. A year late the Army kindly asked me to join them.
My riding from there was purely recreational. I ran into Mugs some 30 odd years ago,,, what was I thinking!
I'm married, three cats that belong here, a German Shepard that we rescued some 4 years ago. A son that is mostly out of the house. A camper that gets some travel time. I do computer networks for a living and practice my two fingered typing by staying in touch with the other Jan / Mugs.

Hi All,

My name's Cera (aka Peanut) - 51 year old woman, divorced many years
ago, no kids except the 4-legged kind. I have 6 old cats and 2 mares;
I'm currently dogless for the 1st time in years.

I grew up in Montana (where I desperately wanted a horse). Although I
rode and jumped a bit as a teenager, I wasn't able to get my first
horse until I was in my early 40s. In the last 10 years I've tried to
immerse myself to make up for lost time, and I work weekends taking
care of 25+ horses at the stable where my horses live. During the
week I'm a chained to a computer writing software in the Portland, OR
area.

I only recently found Mugs blog, but am sure enjoying it.

My horses live here (where it's warmer and wetter than Montana)

Hey Mugs

Still trying to figure out how to post without a reply.....to someone
else?

I'm Lynn and I'm proud to be so far your only Canadian (southwestern
Ontario) representative in this equine book club!! For what that's
worth, lol!!!

I'm 45 and I'm currently on 2 weeks bed rest for a broken knee that I
got while out trail riding with a friend. We were both riding my
horses and in one of those freaky moments my mare took exception to my
gelding being too close and of course my friend and I were gabbing
away, when she fired out with both back feet and hit me in the knee,
second time she hit Scooby Do my gelding. Bless his sweet soul he
didn't freak out but stayed calm and carried my hurting self back to
the barn. Could have been a real train wreck...did I mention I bought
him off the slaughter truck for $225? He is my first OTTB and he is
golden!!!! She broke the knee in three places so post surgery they
have plated and screwed and re-built. I guess I'll see just how long
I'm immobile for next week when I see the Doc again.

Other than that I currently own four horses: a 6 year old QH mare
named Cassie (ya, she is the one who kicked me), Gypsy a 13 year old
pony for my 7 year old daughter, Lady a 20 year old QH mare for my 12
year old son and my 8 year old thoroughbred Scooby Do - my angel with
invisible wings. I'm hoping to keep Scooby and the kids horses, I'm
also in the middle of a nasty separation from my spouse and I'd pretty
much stop eating to keep my horses. I have another son who is 16 and
feeds my horses bless his sweet soul. But he is not a rider.

I've been horse crazy since I can remember and although I had my own
horse, as a kid growing up, I never took lessons until I was in my
thirties. My horses are my inspirations in so many ways, from the art
I paint, to the sketching I do, to the therapy of their warm breath on
my face in the cold of winter. I would truly be lost without the
blessings they bring my and my children.

Looking forward to reading some good books and having some even better
chatter about them! Cheers, y'all!!!!
