Raft Guide and Safety Kayaking Workshop
Whitewater Training will be running a one-day raft guiding course on Monday, 15 and Wednesday, 17 February.
This is an addition to APA qualifications and concentrates on guiding, steering, managing clients on rescue, flipping and other essential competencies.
The course will run from the Hangbrug to Hadeda Creek. Guides that do not show personal competency in climbing onto boats, swimming underneath rafts, etc. will skip the section of Theatre and Gatsien, and re-join the trip after this section. Guides need to bring all their own personal equipment. Course fees do not include food, rafts or transport. The group will arrange transport together.
The course will be conducted by Hugh de Preez and DeWet Michau, with their extensive collective experience raft guiding in Canada, Norway and Asia. This is not a swiftwater rescue course, nor a river guide or trip leader course but will take advantage of the high water to reinforce the above-mentioned skills. At the same time, *kayakers* are invited to join the exercise to develop or improve safety kayaking skills.
Course cost: R800. Contact Hugh to book a space 083 253 5225
