Winter is coming. To enjoy your winter paddling, a dry jacket makes a big difference. From a safety point of view hypothermia affects our mental and physical ability. If there is an injury, being hypothermic before the injury exacerbates shock and makes evacuation extremely difficult. Dry tops have the advantage of allowing anything from a cotton T-shirt to numerous base layers and fleece to be comfortable in a large variety of temperatures. A quick summary of the available dry tops is included below. All the jackets have latex gaskets on the wrist or arm. The Semi Long is the most economical and has a super-stretch neoprene cone neck, which is not quite as dry as the others. The Combi and the Freeride are the most versatile and recommended for South African conditions. Their neck gasket is as comfortable as something that dry can be. The Deluxe versions are ideal for those doing a lot of paddling in the Cape.
