Velo Canada Bikes (Canada's national cycling advocacy organization) has asked if WUCC would be a signatory to a letter they are sending to Transport Canada regarding their proposed de-regulation of e-bikes..  Please review the attached letter and if you have any concerns, please let me know.  Otherwise, I think this is reasonable for us to support.

Subject: Federal E-bike regs

Hi Foresst,

VCB has been working on the whole e-bike issue following the federal announcement that they are stepping away from defining and regulating them. Transport Canada has decided that come February 2021 it will be up to provinces and municipalities to regulate them as they see fit.

Throughout the summer and early autumn Vélo Canada Bikes has engaged stakeholders to discuss the path forward. Hosting conversations with industry, advocacy groups, government and Transport Canada to understand the concerns, challenges, and in the end, the readiness for this this regulatory change.

We are less than six months away and very few people are ready for the change. As such, VCB has crafted a letter to the Prime Minister and the Federal Government asking for a delay in the repeal of the regulations, and a plan not just on e-bikes but on the larger issue of micro-mobility.

Would WUCC be willing to sign onto this letter?

Brian
