Hi,

Does anyone know of or use some sort of content filtering software or service to manage their IM within their organization, specifically MSN? I’m looking for something that can detect specific words and phrases, report on them and track general usage. I really don’t want to see every conversation that anyone has but if the person were to use a specific word then I’d like it to alert and track that conversation.

I know there may be some legal ramifications, I’m merely investigating the feasibility at this stage.

Thanks

Dale

There is a unix/linux application called IMHear which can sniff MSN
traffic. Seems like the original site is down but I built the
application using the FreeBSD ports collection

Your users can circuvent any sort off sniffing if they use a
encryption application like Secway though

We distribute Infowatch (www.infowatch.com) - it gives you the ability
to monitor and block outgoing HTTP traffic (e.g. unencrypted POST
instructions used by IM clients), as well as a lot of other
information leakage functionality. Give me a call on my private email
if you are interested?
</plug>

As for legal ramifications: I think in the aggregate, it is not a
problem; but you have to get signatures from staff members that allow
you to do this on per-staffmember, according to RICA.
