Please find below some algal toxin risk information provided by Center of Disease Control.  Good information

“Dear Colleague:

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has created new communication materials to help increase the public’s awareness about harmful algae and cyanobacteria as a public health concern. Harmful algae and cyanobacteria (sometimes called blue-green algae) can produce toxins (poisons) that can make people and animals sick and affect the environment. You can help us raise awareness of this important issue this Summer by sharing content through your social media platforms and other communication channels.

This week and throughout the Summer, CDC will be sharing social media messages focusing on the following topics:

  • Get the Facts
  • Learn the Signs of Illness
  • Protect Your Pets and Livestock
  • Understand the Environmental Connection
  • Take Steps to Prevent Illness

Social Media Messages and Graphics

Help spread the word by sharing messages on social media. Sample social media messages are available on CDC’s new Harmful Algae and Cyanobacteria Awareness Social Media Toolkit. Be sure to follow @CDCEnvironment and @CDC_NCEZID for more information and shareable content.

Health Promotion Materials

CDC has several educational materials that can be downloaded and ordered for FREE from CDC-Info On Demand. Use the materials below to educate healthcare providers, veterinarians, and the public about harmful algae and cyanobacteria.

For more information, please visit the harmful algal blooms website.
