We (the South Whidbey School Farm program) got an email from Jean Stark at South Whidbey Tilth looking for volunteers to help with their new children's garden on Sundays during Tilth hours. I know you all are busy but I thought I'd put it out there if anybody is interested in doing something like this or knows somebody who might be. I might do a Sunday sometime but can't really commit to more than that. The email and contact info is below. I hope everybody's Spring is going well!
Hi Jay: My name is Jean Stark and I am with South Whidbey Tilth. We are planning a children's garden this year to expand in the coming years. I'm wondering if you can help me find out where to find potential volunteers to help during the Sunday markets for 2 hours. We're hoping to have a 1-2 hour garden activity where children learn basics of gardening, soil, insects, planning and planting gardens. Not a big complex or involved thing. Looking to give marketers a way to involved the family in the garden there around the cobb house as part of the Sunday markets. Simple lessons around what's in that soil, identifying seeds, planning considerations, etc. Don't even have an age range. Hoping to find a few individuals who are interested in helping develop and show up to work with youngsters in a very informal but fun and interactive way. The more they know about gardening and can share what they know, then they will learn as well as anyone coming to the market. Thanks for your time.
