I know it's a pain to put row cover over beds in our windy season, but do folks recommend covering purple sprouting broccoli over the winter? Last year that 3 day stretch of sub-15 degree weather took out most of our PSB, as well as lots of our kale. Is there any downside to covering? Other than it being a PAIN IN THE BUTT?
Thanks!

Hi Brian,

We don't grow overwintered sprouting broccoli, but some other things I would think about before covering something all winter is increased pressure from slugs and caterpillars since they will be protected from birds and extreme cold. Also increased fungal disease like powdery mildew since there won't be as much airflow. If it was me, I would probably only cover it if there were low 20's in the forecast and then take it off once it warmed up again.

Thanks Martin! It's supposed to be hardy to 12 degrees but whatever that cold spell was last year took a lot of it out.
